Q: posting stuff back home

I have some personal items that I want to send back to Australia. towels, bedsheets, Adidas shorts and shirts, nikon lens bag (no lens inside) Nokia phone charger.. North Face jacket and pants... stuff like that.

The freight companies tell me one price per kilogram, but then they see the branded items they tell me they got to pay the customs guy more. All my stuff is old, obviously used, the Nokia phone charger is 2 years old or more!!! Its all just crap I dont need here any more but dont want to dump.

So am I being charged extra for a real reason or are the freight companies just trying to screw me? How is the best way to send (slow boat, I am in no rush).

I am in GZ but can easily go to Hong Kong to do the sending if needed.

Sounds like a rip off to me. That's BS. I sent stuff back to OZ using China Post (no other options where I am) and no such line of questioning occurred. Stuff I sent back included some expensive artwork I acquired here. Cost was staggeringly high but I elected airmail instead of slow boat which they say is 3 months. It was pretty frustrating too, the whole transaction. Reminded me of Australia Post in the 1970's.

I suggest you tell the freight company that all the brand names are fake Chinese reproductions. They will 'wink wink nudge nudge' that I am sure.

BTW, going to Hong Kong is a super alternative. Good luck.

Freight is very expensive. I looked into it last year when I sent three boxes of vacuum-sealed clothing from China to Australia. Customs fees, port fees, etc made it non-cost effective.

However, China Post was extremely cheap. It cost me about 300 Yuan for the three boxes, surface mail. It took 6 weeks to arrive. I bought the boxes from China Post.

I guess they can freight a lot of small parcels in bulk, and minimise the fees.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
