Is it just me or does the following citizens of these countries get a lot more flexibility and preferences whilst applying for jobs in China?
-Ireland
-UK
-Canada
-USA
-New Zealand
-Australia
It seems that citizens from these countries (Caucasian) who do not hold a degree still seem to be employed first than non-native English speakers with a degree? Is this the way the Chinese work?

yeah probably
But don't expect any white man guilt from me.

Without a degree they may get the job but they'd be working illegally.
Edit* Non-natives with degrees within the confines of the law? Your question is ambiguous (probably on purpose). Non natives can work legally if they have have certified degrees (can't remember the exact term now, pre-coffee) from native speaking countries. They are given the same consideration because schools that hire legally are desperate to fill slots.
Now when you come to the illegal job market, what do you expect? They'll hire russians that can't speak English over a black American
Let me ask you a question Emma. Would you pay to learn Chinese (Intermediate to Advanced) from an American who came here and studied for 4 years or from a Chinese student? Whose language ability (Chinese ) is better?
Yes...it is how China works. Accept it.
Discrimination, favouritism and preferential treatment is the norm.
Even for Chinese workers.....too short?....forget it!, we only want tall people representing our company.........too ugly?......no way jose!
And people from Sichuan need not apply as they are all thieves.
Very usual to see this.
Robk:
Never heard that...
Usually I hear people from Henan, Xinjiang or Anhui are all thieves and cheats.
Never heard anyone say that about Sichuan... just spicy hot pot, pandas and beautiful women.
Yes, Chinese are extremely racist, even among their own.
Do you know what the whole hukou system is? Segregation, within China, among Chinese. People from one city having access to things and services and opportunities that others don't have access to, no matter how hard they work towards it, just because those others were born in the wrong city.
Don't blame this on White people, Chinese are some of the most racist people in this world.
Englteachted:
Of course this must be blamed on white people just because .
Yeah, it has been like that since I first came to China ten years ago.
They say there is no racism but it clearly does exist.
Take for example the city I live in, lower Tier.. That being said, many Polish are getting jobs here. Locals don't know the difference... and they pay them a lot less. Since they have EU passports, they just say they are from Europe, which they are... but locals assume that means UK, France, Germany, or one of the other more developed European countries. I could care less, but they just want the white skin.
There are billboards with white people all over them, yet not a single white person in sight (other than myself). So you have to ask yourself... why are they all white and not Asian? Why is there no black people in the ads? Chinese are just brainwashed that way.
Shining_brow:
I've mentioned this before - there's actually a few billboards near where I live that has a black doctor on it advertising a medical clinic!!! Very pleasantly surprised!
BlightyMatt:
Billboards are the same here in Fujian.
Smiling happy cute white family having a great time at the local zoo / funpark.
I shake my head every time I see them.
But on the plus side I did get paid 600 rmb for one hours work. Wear a shirt and tie, hold a microphone and stand on a stage to be a "boss"....me?....boss!.....Ha3
