Q: Is the premise of marraige used as a tool of control by the Chinese government?

Think about it...as a tool of conformity and consumerism.

I think Dude has a point with the conformity issue. We all no we are in a country where to step outside the norm is seen as being unharmonious, and of course once married all the cost of setting up home, hence consummerism.. It would not surprise me at all that somewhere in the CCP someone latched onto the idea of promoting marriage as a tool for herding the sheep. Of course the other tool that goes hand in hand with this is treating living together, sex before marriage etcetera as being bad, and of course "nice" girls don't do that do they.

I dont know... I think that the viewpoint of society as a whole on marriage has been that way long before the last 60 some odd years.

But for theories along the same lines. I would look at the education system.

Dude, you miss the point entirely. It is the breeders who are difficult to control, while hedonists are easily manipulated. Have a look into "Brave New World" and think about why poeple like Dick Chenney have so many gay staffers.
