While in Hong Kong, by their Laws and Regulations, restricted medicines do require a prescription by a doctor to purchase, many local drugstores, depending on the medicine you are seeking, will sell it to you over the counter.  For example, most antibiotics could be purchased this way, but other medicines, like Prosac, morphine, opium derivatives, etc, will require a prescription.

To check and see if the medicine you require is approved for sale in Honk Kong, please go to :

Wow greg, hitting the echina to find out how to get your drug fix. All antibotics can be received over the counter here, so my only guess is your a drugy, if you cross that border with what you want you're screwed. They don't deport for drug position especially that of opites. They will put you in jail for 3 to 15 years. The last foreigner was caught with a cigarette pack of weed, is now doing 5 years with his embassy not even trying to help him. Do you get me? You want your fix, go to Hong Kong, probably would be cheaper in the long run

gregoryneal1:

have u considered writing for Hollywood? I am just trying to imagine someone intelligent enough to access an expat forum and still dumb enough to advertise that he would like info on how to smuggle illegal substances. I suppose it could happen, anything's possible!

anyway, my story is unfortunately much more pedestrian. I just require a certain brand of medicine that I have been unable to locate on mainland, so I thought I would look in Kongers. True, I did want to avoid the hassle of a written prescription from a physician. I know what I need and do not need to be reminded by paying a physician money.

I also am guilty of seeing things through my Thai eyes. In case you are unaware, you can walk in most Thai pharmacies and buy what you want with a prescription called 'THB'. I was just hoping HK might be similarly inclined to bend the rules.

obtaining  prescription drugs without a prescription is illegal in HK! and you want to transport said illegally obtained drugs into mainland china (who recently executed a phil guy for smuggling drugs) . and in a genius move you advertise your intent to the world wide web. seeking advice from law abiding expats (looking to make us all co conspirators)

you call tech dumb then what are you greg????

ps. dont insult thais by saying you are seeing things through thai eyes

gregoryneal1:

You guys are strange. Please try to understand the basics. I would not discuss something online if I was doing something best not discussed in public. Pretty simple concept, yes ?

Second, there are 1000's of medicines that people need and would not quite fit into the concept of smuggling, I mean just boring, everyday medicines. The med I need is sold on taobao.

I know u guys get some sorta rush from finding exciting things to talk about on these sites, but, unfortunately, this just is not one of them.

i suggest you try chinasmack.

peace out.

btw: I never said that I was Thai. and people are allowed stupid behavior without a whole nationality paying for their stupidity.

"I also am guilty of seeing things through my Thai eyes." unless you swapped eyes with a thai guy/gal how else do you end up with thai eyes?

you did not call tech dumb my fault for skimming instead of actually reading

The 'eye' thing was just a figure of speech. Perhaps not justified on my part, but I did not mean to pretend that I was Thai. I did however live in Thailand a long time.

Umm, forgot to add, my post was really because in China, it's rare for to have a prescription for anything, diabetic meds are otc, anitbotics are otc, almost everything is otc, except opiate derived pain meds that can generally only be given by a western hospital and that would require a prescription from said doctor

gregoryneal1:

yeah, I figured it was probably like that with only the 'serious' things needing a prescription here. I probably could have found what I seek at a mainland pharmacy, I just asked about HK because I'll be there soon.

since people are probably wondering, I need the really fun one called Phenytoin Sodium.
