Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: problems with Chinese employers?
Has anybody else had this problem? I was offered a job. I signed the contract, I answered their countless emails. Was waiting to start on the visa. Suddenly all goes dead. They will not answer emails or Skype or qq. Ignore me completely. Why do they not just tell me straight. I ve not been sleeping we'll cause I keep getting up early to see if they have responded. Why do they treat applicants like sh@t
EDIT: I jumped the gun. They were on holiday. Would have been nice if they told me. I got a bit paranoid because the above happened before.

because they can: it is a sign of how much they care.
they probably found someone cheaper so they could pocket a greater % of the fee the school gives them.
you are lucky you didn't stat working with them if this is how they treat applicants.
Just name them here on ECC as a warning of a place/company to avoid dealing with.

It's been two days. I'll give them a few more in case they are on holiday

Welcome to a vision of life where anybody who's not you is disposable and just a mean to an end. Some say, it's the same everywhere with different levels of hypocrisy, I would beg to differ, and the conversation would likely go nowhere or worse.
Yeah,
Chinese employers are exceptionally stupid. I swear to god that I will NEVER work for one EVER again and I do my best not to do business with most Chinese (some are okay)... but 99.9% of all of them suck. Communicating with many Chinese managers is horrific at best.
Most treat employees or applicants with little to no respect or regard. Sorrel is right, you should be happy... it is better than working for losers like them.
Hold out until a good opportunity comes along. Never bank on just one offer, especially here.
You never play with only one employer, like we use to do in the West.
Apply everywhere, and talk seriously with several schools in the same time. Never believe anything it's serious, till you don't get Contract offer for sign.
After I asked Qs about curriculum, students, apartment and similar, I always ask: 'Can I see your Contract, please?'
Then, pick the best (or the first) Contract you received, and sign it. Ask: 'When will you send me WP and Invitation letter?'
After you got reply on expected date of Z docs. arrival, you can be sure thing is serious.
Forget other 'serious' talks.
It never happened to me that after I signed Contract, all conversation with School would stop. School is responsible for your placement/Z docs., after they received your signed Contract. You're in violation of Chinese law, if School starts with WP and Invitation letter application, and you sign Contract with another employer. You could get more about that at SAFEA.
What is the name of the School and Province/city, you signed Contract?
In general, I have noticed that Chinese treat each other like sh*t--it isn't even exclusively a 'business with the nongs' type of thing. It's as if people here instinctively know that other people will try to screw them over, and will in turn try to screw those other people over even more. It becomes a circus, where every social interaction (except for the most intimate...sometimes) devolves into people trying to treat each other as badly as humanly possible.
It makes me so completely unsurprised that the Cultural Revolution happened.

They got back in touch, they were on holiday. I think it'll be legit, my mistake
It's to work as medical copywriter.icnif77:
Slim chance to be legit in 'medical copywriting' field, IMO. You should be 'imported/send' to China by/from Western Medical Firm, and fluent in Chinese. Doesn't matter what, SAFEA still applies for all inquires about 'legit'.
dokken:
you do know lots of jobs are advertised for Chinese companies. I highly doubt only sent expats get a legitimate visa. Look at reed.co.uk and put in China
icnif77:
You need Chinese Co./sponsor, authorized for foreign hire by SAFEA for Z visa, which is the only legal visa to work in China.
Placement agencies (except Helen Group) aren't usually authorized/can't sponsor (getting WP and ILetter) Z visa.
'holidays' excuse is also shaky, because since you posted Q, there weren't any holidays in China, except Boat Festival this weekend.
dokken:
I do know that I did check the holidays. She doesn't seem to work full time or she had time off. She didn't say holiday I just said that for simplicity
