I read on Chinese media that rules were supposedly loosening up on allowing relationships in middle and high schools.
I teach in one of the wealthiest high schools in Shenzhen, and kids still have to wait till nightfall to go out and be able to hold hands. There's also a headteacher whose principal duty, when not in the classroom, is to break up any open displays of affection between students.

Also read that one school has banned boy and girls talking to each other, sitting next to each other. As they said school is a place to learn but not a place to learn communication.
