Q: Qingming stuff is delightful
I been here 3t+ years ..where dad died.... and every year the son comes here from Guangzhou to respect Dad. that is fine.. and a wonderful thing.......... the 3 daughters do not do so much. two in Hong Kong and my wife here just go la de dah....... I get somewhat amazed at the inconsistencies of the revelation ... one daughter goes regularly to Taiwan, or France, or Italy... but leaves the young son, from the mainland, to deal with the ancient stuff, the honoring the dead .
My wife, because she lives here, in the good old family town.... gets to cook a big meal for her little brother. Of course others come to, and my wife loves to cook big meals..... but I, yah me, have an issue..... nobody else ever can cook as good as my wife ..... what a whiner huh.
.. it is like.. you do it.....your job...I am going to have some fun.
what a bunch of gibberish.... figure it out ....
My simple understanding is that it is the son who carries on the family line & therefore the son who sweeps the family tomb & pays respects to the families ancestors at Qingming. Something to do with the fact that when the daughters get married they basically join their husbands family.
I'd love to hear from the Chinese posters on here the actual reasons if I'm wrong.
BHGAL, do you remember when we went to that wedding at new year?
I was sort of spooked when they set up a table with food and empty chairs for the married couple to Kow Tao and pray to. I have never seen that before. But really, it's a cool tradition.
I was unsure if I should take photos or not, because I don't like taking photos of people praying. Praying to me is a private thing.
But hey, the family wanted photos. So they could show what a good meal they had put on for the dead. So I went full on and set up the flash guns.
Ha ha, I moved one of the empty chairs to get a better angle for the photo, and I soon found out I had done a very disrespectful thing.
I think you are in the background of that photo with a can of beer in your hand .
ScotsAlan:
Ha ha. Just found the photo. Hotwater is in it too..... with a can of beer. And an Ayi too. Impossible to take a wedding photo in China without an Ayi in it.
