Prince Harry was in the news this last week saying nobody in the royal family wanted to step into the job when she dies.
97 million is a lot of money - don't know if she's on some sort of salary or that's the interest she receives from all the money and gold she must have, but I doubt the rest of the family are ever going to hurt for money so why would they want to take that on?
I'd consider it though if they came to me.

I know some of her stuff is considered 'State', but some is really hers. Gotta be one of the wealthiest walking the planet. After a while, they probably don't care. Not like they can't have anything they want anyway.
Pretty cool being a Monarch.
I seen her in a motorcade one time in Scotland, I was a kid.
Stiggs:
Yep. They're rich as hell, they can buy anything they want.
Except a private life and freedom to just be yourself, go to a pub and get drunk and make a dick of yourself, have one night stands with nasty chicks you meet online, do too many mushrooms on the beach and take all your clothes off, get a tattoo, get in a fight, go through teenage phases, go off camping with your mates, wear a t-shirt with a hilarious non pc message on it, smoke weed and watch Tarantino movies... all the good stuff in life.
I can see why being royal isn't all it's cracked up to be. It must suck to be that rich and not be able to do the good things.
Shining_brow:
Ummm... I reckon Harry has done the week and watching Tarantino movies... just does it in the palace when everyone's away on a trip somewhere...
Stiggs:
I bet he has the best home theater money can buy too. Life could definitely be worse for him.

The three components of Queen of England's source of income. At least, they are public knowledge anyone can examine under the sun. Ask that of Xi, Li, Wen, Hu, Jiang.....and see what happens? Bloomberg knows the answer to this question.
Englteachted:
" This is the grant that the Government reportedly want to reduce because the revenue of the Crown Estate is rising faster than the costs of the royal household."
They can't get a job? Why does the govt gotta support the entire damn family?
earthizen:
" Sovereign Grant In 1760, King George III cut a deal with parliament to hand over the Crown Estate — a large portfolio of land and property now worth $15 billion, which includes most of the U.K.’s seabed, Regent Street in London and Buckingham Palace – to the Treasury."
Because the Brits honor that deal, which says she is entitled to get a 15% cut of the revenue from the properties her ancestors 'surrendered' to the country.
To be specific, the legal and political system of UK honor the deal, which from the angle of law, is an asset, even a key pillar of the a civilised society. If the Brits are unhappy about it, settle it in court, not bloodbaths.
This Sovereign Grant may change, meaning you are on the right track, upon her passing away.
To be fair, she is just about the only living ruler on this planet who has the Class, for lack of a better word. In face of adversities, she steps up and her people can find solice through her. Look around, find me another leader who can do that. In that regard, she reminds me of Reagan. I don't know what other words to describe this besides CLASS.
No, even Thatcher wasn't up to that level, and certainly not Teresa May, who is in my opinion, still a bit far behind Thatcher.
Oh, these rare iconic landmarks, when they are gone, I don't see ANY successors.

. it is the browser, I think I am getting close to solving these annoying posting problems
diverdude1:
@earth,,, I'm with you. the World sure is changing.
Our Queen, Her Majesty stood up in WWII. I am a Proud Monarchist.
From what I've been hearing about UK's financial problems, I can see how you can solve them.

97 million would only make the tiniest dent. Cutting welfare to parasitic immigrants and lazy native slobs would save a lot more. But the Royal Family are high profile and therefore easy targets. And cost is not the only consideration when discussing cultural institutions.
