Q: Query: when someone has an affair here, is it commonly with a friend??
I was just thinking this - in the 'west', affairs are commonly with someone known to both parties - husband and wife (obviously, not when it's with a co-worker...)
Is this the same in China? Would a 'best friend' do the dirty on their friend, with their partner?? Or, would this be considered REALLY bad?? (ie, TOO bad?)

I think you answer your own question, it is too bad no matter what! But i'd say usually chinese men cheat on their wives with someone that's not in the friendly circle of the family to avoid complications. Plus, they'd rather 'choose' a younger and somewhat more extravagant girl and pay her to keep her quiet!
I think best friend do not do the dirty with friends partner, or not friend anymore.
I don't think affairs are all that common 'in the west'. Dating and sex are common.
I don't think you can control who you have affairs or date with, just whoever appeals to you. Unless you are a real dog, then not everyone will do.

Yes, it is most likely with a friend. Maybe it's hers or his, but either way, from my experience, Chinese women don't seem to like the "stranger hookup". This is in reguards to married Chinese women.
Most business men just hook up with KTV girls, find one they like, and keep her on retainer.
