Q: A question about foreign banks in China
As far as I know, for example, HSBC China has little to do with "real" HSBC (UK, US, Hong Kong etc. branches), as for me, it's like a Chinese bank with a foreign brand and better service. Are the branches of such banks as Standard Chartered, Bank of East Asia, Citibank any different?

Citibank generally speaking follows American standards per its own operating manual; I would hardly, honestly speaking, ever classify Citibank as having given me, at least, outstanding service. If you want a foreign bank with excellent service and attention to customers, then please try Bank Julius Baer (headquartered in Zurich). Minimum deposit, however, is at least USD 10 million and they have a branch in Hong Kong as well as Beijing. Foreign banks in China mostly require much more cash up front to open a deposit than to their Chinese and local counterparts.
