Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: A question for the drivers, Chinese road signs
Can someone explain the meaning of the road signs? In particular the cross intersection road signs. The sign will show the name of the road you're driving on, and the name of the next intersecting road. But then there are two road names on the sign above the intersecting road and then two road names below the intersecting road. I'm confused whether the road names above and below the intersecting road represent the roads parallel to the intersecting road, the roads parallel to the road you're driving on, whether the roads are ahead or behind you, or some other meaning. Is there a significance in putting the road names on the left or the right side of the sign? These road signs were not part of the questions for study when I got my license. Some help please?

Theres a link that can help.
Ok so here goes nothing.
1: This tells you that you are currently on 发达路 ( Fa Da Lu )
2: It tells you that the next cross street coming right up is 坂雪岗大道( Ban Xue Gang Da Dao ) ( Go left for north and turn right for south)
3: It also tells you that if you continue straight then the next intersection will be 环城东路 ( Huan Cheng Dong Lu )
4: It also tells you that if you turn left and continue down that road you will also hit the Hua Wei building ( 华为) and 环城北路 ( Huan Cheng Bei Lu)
5: If you turn right you will reach the entrance for the 南平快速 ( Nan Ping Highway ) and 布龙路 ( Bu Long Lu)
Note 1: When going straight this usually means it will be the next main intersection but not always ( see #3) But when turning left or right it doesnt mean it will be the next one or even close, just keep going untill you see a sign. Should be within a few KM's ( see #4&5)
Note 2: Sometimes you will see street names on the bottom of the sign, this means it is behind you and you have already passed it if thats what you are looking for. Turn around.
hi2u:
This helps a little, but is still a little confusing.
You said by turning right I can reach Bulong lu, but Huancheng beilu and Bulong lu are both at the bottom , so which one is it? does that mean they are behind me? And so they are parallel to Ban xue gang dadao? Or does it mean that I can reach Huancheng beilu by turning left and reach Bulong lu by turning right?
mike695ca:
No ,bu long lu and huacheng bei are not behind you. It means if you turn left huancheng bei will cross with your street shortly. And if you turn right you will meet bulong
mike695ca:
Thays the tricky part. Finding out if where they placed it on the sign is left or bottom. This sign i showed you has nothing on the bottom. ( it would be in the middle) it only has left and right. Regardless of if its placed on top of the pictured street or below. Its all left.
