Q: Quick Amazon kindle question...

My kindle is from another country (not US), I still have few hundred of kindle gift card money left on my account... but I am not able to use that money to buy books, neither able to download any free books (the purchase option is greyed out)...

I had to create a new account in amazon.cn and register my kindle with that account in order to download any books... but when I did that, I lost all books in cloud... the problem with A.cn is 1. not too many free English books, 2. does not have good collections of English authors, 3. Books by good authors are too expensive.

I even tried to register with Amazon.com... but still don't get an option to buy any books.

Any experiences with it?

You should be able to buy books from Amazon if you are logged into the US site with a US delivery address. Im surprised that doesn't work with whatever country you are from. Try having someone (someone who you'd enabled on your Kindle account) there download the books and email them to you

A better solution, though, is to get Calibre Ebook software. With it, you can easily convert free ebooks you download from any site to a format suitable for your Kindle. There are a lot of free ebooks online.

I agree with Scahtz about Calibre software, it is brilliant. There are so many free books out there to choose from, my personal collection now runs at about thirteen thousand. My wife calls my Kindle the library.

You had to log onto Amazon China? I used Amazon UK when in China and downloaded books same as before. You will need money in your home country bank account obviously

Karma101:

Yep, I even had money in the gift card of amazon, which supposedly I could use to buy books, but the purchase option grayed out when I tried from China. So I had to deregister the account and register a new amazon.cn account… I guess maybe I it’ll work with VPN, but I don’t know…

You are able to buy books and have it automatically transfer to your kindle from Amazon uk?
