Q: Renewal of marriage residence permit, Guangzhou

My one year marriage residence permit will expire in a couple months so I want to renew it. Does anyone know what documents are needed for a renewal? I cannot find the info on the PSB website nor will anyone answer the phone.... Its a bit far from my house so I would like to avoid having to make two trips due to a missing document. I guess I will need, one photo, residence registration slip, marriage book, wife's id--anything else?

Just came back from GZ to renew mine...get the medical check if you want the Q1 extended, otherwise, you'll end up with a Q2 and have to exit every 180 days.

The complete list of documents needed for all RPs here, in Chinese, for future reference (GZ PSB) http://www.gdcrj.com/bszn/wgrcrj/jlxk/201309/t20130917_27275.htm

The Hukou of your relative's family might be needed.

Sinobear:

Actually, it is needed along with photocopies.

For new Q-Visa applications, the spouse may have to hand-write a document detailing your relationship...renewals, de nada

Thank you for the clarification. The PSB document only mentions "sufficient proof of relationship", which is as usual conveniently vague.

Sinobear:

At the police station, I required nothing this time. They simply renewed the temporary FMFLIOGC (Foreign Mother-F**ker Living In Our Glorious Country) permit. The PSB wanted copies of everything plus the usual "interview" on the sixth floor.

Again, it's really a matter of taking the originals (including your spouse's I.D card) and copies to the visa office.

It looks like the darn poke-and-prod medical is back, so do it and get it over with (I had a nice 'conversation' with the lead doctor at the hospital where the medicals are done over the fact that the "doctor's" certificates were not displayed. When I asked to see said certificates, the doctor threatened me, I rebutted with the name of a certain Beijing official who would come to investigate this irregularity, and I got my stamp forthwith - seeing as how the "doctors" at the foreign poke-and-probe hospital are by-and-large only interns and not "qualified" doctors - hence 85 attempts at finding a vein in which to draw your purple-foreign blood).

Re what Sinobear writes. I've extended mine a couple of times without the medical check, only did that the first time. So maybe not needed for an extension. (at least in Zhuhai it isnt')

Sinobear:

I had the 'L' visa, one year automatic renewals...no need to exit. This year, changing to the 'Q', I needed a medical check (780 RMB and a four day wait) to get the extended Q1 - two to five year visa. As I poo-poohed the medical, I have a Q2 visa, good for a year, but must exit after 180 days.

Thanks everyone! Sinobear, did you have a residence permit before, or just a spousal L visa? I have a residence permit and did the medical last year, an agent told me I do not have to redo it but they want a 1000rmb service fee. I hate to give 1000rmb when I can drop everything off myself.

Sinobear:

I had the FRP and FEC before. They want a medical done within the last 3-6 months (time depends on their mood, it seems)

What Jesl wrote. I did a roundtrip to PSB yesterday. Nothing changed since last years application (which was also renewal) Also got 2 years. This is in Zhuhai of course.

Medical check only needed the first time

And on a nice note. The same woman was there to handle the application, her English has been improved from "crap" to "understandable" in the last year :)

If this was a former L Family visa and you're going for a Q1 visa for the first time, you'd better have these things prepared:

1. A health check.
2. Your wifes printed official bank statements. ( you might not need this, but have it ready).
3. Marriage books.
4. Any kids birth certificates born in China, bring their Hukou.
5. Local PSB Apartment registration.

That should do it. My friend who had the former L Family visa was forced to have the health check for a Q1.

Jesl:

I am not sure if its a Q1, it just says residence permit for foreigners, looks like the work residence permit, but has family reunion listed as the reason. Never heard you needed your wife's bank statement; maybe Shenzhen has different requirements?

ironman510:

Yep that's a former L family visa or a new Q visa with the family chinese writing on it.  It depends on your PSB, I've heard of people that needed bank statements to prove that their chinese wife or husband could support their foreign husband or wife. All cities and provinces will do different things and so will the PSB officers, they might request it just because they are having a bad day or they didn't like your shirt. No joke. So just be prepared and print out those bank statements, it takes 10 minutes, very easy. Better safe then sorry.
