Q: Renewal of passport + transposing visa?

I live in Beijing and I need to get a new passport, as mine is running out soon, but I hear you have to reapply for your visa as soon as you get your new passport.

Anyone know how that works?

I'm from the States, btw...

If you still have your old passport and the visa is valid in it (including the date) then you dont need to get a new visa. But if visa is longer than the pasport date, you have to get a new visa.
