Q: Renting in Pudong, Shanghai

I am currently interviewing with a company in Pudong, Shanghai who is going to be paying around 10,000 RMB per month salary, though there is no mention of any housing or housing allowance being provided. So naturally, I have started to research this on my own.

When doing a look on craigslist, I was absolutely floored by the prices of apartments around that area which ranged from about 1/2 my monthly salary to 2x it. It wasn't only craigslist that showed prices in this range but other areas as well.

Can someone tell me if I can even find anything cheaper in this area and how can I go about finding that.

If you want to find an apartment, you don't go on Craig's list. You go around the place you think you interesting for you to live, then you go to the Chinese agencies and tell them your budget for your appartment.
According to your salary, your only choice are some appartment in a max 6-floors building, higher prices will too high.
I am living in Pudong since 2007. For a 110m2 appartment, we at first paid 4200, then in 2010, the landlord increased the rent to 5200, and in 2011 to 5800.
So good luck in your search.
