Q: RIP Batman ...gone at 88

West died on Friday night after "a short but brave battle with leukaemia", the family statement said.

The live-action Batman show, starring West along with Burt Ward as his sidekick Robin and a collection of colourful villains, was inspired by a long-running comic book series.

It ran only three seasons from 1966 to 1968 on the ABC network, but became a television phenomenon and cult classic. It also spawned a Batman feature film in 1966.

When West took on the tights, he stoked the stoicism for laughs: a superhero letting everyone know he was in on the joke.

"We were making overstated morality plays for children that adults could watch and enjoy," West told the Los Angeles Times in a 2004 interview.
Loved the series as a kid ...the movies were to serious.
Thanks for the memories and RIP

'Batman' was repeated many times over the years on a Saturday morning.

It may be considered cheesy now, but as a young child i was entertained by the simple morality of the weekly stories and would try to guess the villain at the start of every episode.

Cheers for simpler times Mr West

He was part of my childhood too. I still have memories of a Batmobile as a kid (although I don't recall who owned it Tongue) And, I would suggest, his Batmobile was the batmobile of all time!

I saw him recently on an episode of Big Bang Theory, so glad he was still up and about getting roles (sort of like Mark Hamill who's making a comeback.).

Na-na-na-nana...BATMAAAANNNNNN. (yeah, just imagine it....)
