Q: Roadtrip in China

Did anyone ever go on a road trip through China. It seems to me one of the challenges of traveling in China is that using trains, busses and planes, you can only go to the major cities (easily) Driving around might be a way to best see rural China

Any experiences or suggestion to this

(apart from that, don't have a car or a Chinese drivers license yet)

A road trip would kick ass, and some guys I work with and I are going to try to take one next year. It would be a good way to see rural china because you can cover a lot of distance, but long bike trips are the best way to experience the countryside. In a car with A/C and heaters, you are one step removed from being in it.

I drive out with family and friends frequently day trips at weekends and the occasional longer trip during breaks, but I love driving (even in China).

The huge limitation though is size. I really didn't realise just how freaking huge China is, on a three day trip we went to Luizhou, Danxin Island, and some other city, three days solid driving (with frequent side trips) and I don't think we even left Guangxi Province!
