A question probably better for the lawyers and all, but since I'm on here (and not sitting in a lawyers office right now...).
2 questions:
A) What's the real advantage of having an RP due to owning a business in China, vs being employed (by a fairly good team of people)?
B) In a JV (or, perhaps, even a WOFE), is the foreign (partner) a human, or can it be a foreign company? (I'm thinking of opening the HK co., and having it JV with a local..).

I would say your aim should be a D visa. 5 years of tax, and you might just get that holy grail. I work on an RP, 3 years tax paid, just yesterday I got a new 2 year RP
I even done a deal with my wife over this. She suggested we go to my home country where I can earn more money as an employee, I said let me try for a D then I can work for the highest bidder in China.
She agreed with me. You cant sell your skills on a Z, but you can on a D.
Shining_brow:
What are you talking about w "5 years of tax"?? etc??
Btw, When I first read your last line, I thought you wrote "You can't sell your kids on a Z"... :p
ScotsAlan:
You need 5 years of Chinese tax returns to apply for a D visa.

OIC... tax returns? or just taxes?
And from the same place (employer, city, province?) or anywhere in China?
And... problem is.. fairly certain (99%) that one of my employers didn't bother paying tax... just took the money (and probably bought a new car or something).
