Q: Rubbing two walnut shells together in one's hand?

I've been seeing (or more accurately, hearing) Chinese people on the bus and subway rubing two walnut shells around in their hands. What's the deal with this?

Is this a seasonal thing or did I just overlook it until now?

Have you ever heard of those round balls that you can get in the store with the little bell inside. It's for massaging your own hands. It's supposed to be a way to relax your hand. It's just a form of a massage. With the walnut shells it is the same concept. They use it for massaging their hands. Hope that helped you!

It is supposed to keep the finger joints active and supple and help in preventing arthritis. In other countries they do the same with steel or glass balls.

Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after entry to China. So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards.
