Q: Running/jogging in Chengdu or anywhere in China?

I run long distance for sport/exercise. Is it common in Chengdu to see people running? Will people join me? or chase me? (Haha it happened in Ecuador several times. Some children would run with me at random for a little way. I was also chased by 2 guys once (while a third called the cops) because they thought I was running away from a crime or something, I guess.) If jogging is ok, is it safe to do it earlier in the mornings when it isn't as busy on the streets, or should I do it in the evenings? Should I stick to a park, or is it ok to do it on the streets? I'd love to be able to enjoy the city while I do it (although, that will depend on how the pollution affects my breathing).

I have never, for the life of me, seen a Chinese person jog. They will probably just stare at you in the street and in the park for that matter. I think the Chinese prefer sitting in parks. I am currently planning to jog/climb 'rocky style' a mountain not far from where I live but far from the staring and laowei comments. Check your area. Buy a map. Plan a route on the outskirts of the city or find a mountain like me. Good luck.

People in Chengdu don't really jog/run at all. If they do, you'll see them at Sichuan University, running around the track. When I lived in Chengdu, I ran outside often and it was fine. People might stare at you but it's not a big deal. I lived by the university so I would either run around the campus or along the river. I would usually run in the evening, once the weather was cooler and the streets not so crowded.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
