Q: Russians in Beidaihe desensitizing locals to foreigners?

So I was at the beach in Beidaihe and that place is crawling with Russians. Not saying anything about Russians, there's just quite a lot of them there, signage is in Russian, places offer vodka, etc. Anyway I noticed along the boardwalk there that a lot of places (restaurants, stores, a hotel) wouldn't let me use their bathroom when I couldn't find the public one. I don't know about you guys but I don't think I've EVER been refused a restroom use by a Chinese employee (I'm white) in all my years in China, and I was thinking it might be because the locals there don't put whiteys on a pedestal because they're so used to all the Russians. Anyone had a similar experience?

As far as possible, I think that it might be a good idea to avoid generalizations.   I have heard similar things said about the large number of Americans in Shanghai or the detrimental effects of the British in Hong Kong, etc.

That being said, let's face the reality of it and admit that we are all aware of a preferential "pecking order" of foreigners in China, as silent as it may be, at least from a Chinese perspective, and as regrettable as it may be.  In the city where I am, I can see this practised all the times -- wages for Americans here are 100% and then it goes downhill from there, at least that has been my own experience.  I welcome the comments of others.

nevermind:

What does this have to do with Americans?
