What is the expected salary for a teacher in Shanghai/ Qingdao/tianjin? ( Especially A levels or IB ) Can any one guide me? I mean monthly salary? and how much is the taxrate?

Taxable is any excess over 4,000 Rmb per month.
It will also depend on which city, and where. Colleges or universities pay more, give better and more benefits. Then on decending order come High Schools, Middle Schools and Gramar Schools. Also, private own schools pay less and are more prone to do as they please even with contract than government control schools.
In Shanghai maybe an average salary for a teacher will be from 12,000 Rmb per month minimum to maybe 18,000 Rmb, depends on how many teachers are available also, and how long the position has been open
The taxable amount for non-Chinese citizens who are legally resident in the PRC is RMB 4,800 per month. It was raised to this amount several years ago and while there have been adjustments to the amount that Chinese pay, income tax for foreigners only kicks in at that amount.

As for teachers' salaries, they run the entire gammit from RMB 3,500 per month in some places in the poorer provinces to RMB 20,000+ per month for speciality fields, or GAC courses or the like. It's just hard to say.
Nonetheless, if you do not have a specialisation, then the highest paying teaching jobs in China often tend to be ... in kindergartens believe it or not ... particularly in Shenzhen, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Kindergartens? Actually that makes sense. One has to be off one's noggin to want to be surrounded by kids all day long! I was offered 15,000 yuan to teach elementary school. turned it donw for a much lower salary but teaching university students. However, if you like kids then this can be great. Me? My love for children grows in proportion to the distance separating me from them!

I teach kindergarten in international school. I have one TA and one aide. I have 12 students who comes from different country. I have no locals. Although I have them five hours a day - they have 3 specialist class for about 30 minutes. Pay and benefits are wonderful. I couldn't complain how awesome it is. Now the pain part is doing IB stuff nd all :-(
I am a qualified teacher with a Masters in My Subject and Plus a teaching Degree. Plus 9 Years Experience in teaching altogether.
thanks to the 981977405.

In your shoes with those credentials, I would limit my search to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou, maybe Nanjing and maybe Tianjin and I would research all the INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS that I could find in those places. Those credentials put you about 5 kilometers ahead most of the pack. You can look here for International Schools put you may also wish to try the China Job Board on www.eslcafe.com. The last time that I looked there were several International schools looking -- and on this site as well. We're talking kind of big bucks if you can find the right school and the right job.
The number quoted by 981977405 is the correct one, as per latest modification in late 2011. While for locals the monthly tax free amount to be deducted prior to submitting tax report was 4,000 Rmb, for foreigners working in China was raised to 4,800 Rmb monthly. So, your first 4800 Rmb of income will be tax free every month. You are liable for taxes on income from the day you enter China or your first day of employment, and must file a return declaring income on a monthly and once per year basis.
The tax on balance is progressive, and the latest rates are :

- Passive income such as interest and royalties is taxable at a standard rate of 20%.
- Hope this helps you better.
the school told me some where around 3500 USD + On campus apartment + airfare. Isn't it the qingdao not a good place to work in an A level school.
981977405:
Did the school tell you USD 3,500. per month or RMB 3,500 per month? Please be sure of the amount. USD 3,500 will give you a lifestyle that you probably never had before...on the other hand RMB 3,500 would be just terrible. Qingdao is fine, truly, on either salary but on the first one, you could have a cleaning lady, a cook, a nice place to live and really enjoy life .
@ 981977405 ..Some where around 3500 USD per month. I was getting that salary in Japan ( 350000 Yen per month plus apartment plus moving allowance plus airfare.). And I guess, due to that they are offering the same amount plus on campus accomodation for both myself n husband and return airfare). I am waiting for the contract !
Hello,
I can get you a full time job that will pay between 9,000-12,000 RMB a month in Shanghai. It's a great place to be. Cantact me if you're interested.

Every place is different, depending on the area you are in and your education depends on your salary.
