Q: School doesn't offer airport pickup?
The foreign affairs manager at my school just told me that they don't pick up teachers from the airport when they arrive in China. Should I be concerned? Is this normal for some schools?

What city, some airports are very convenient for subway like beijing, other airports are a 130 rmb taxi fare with no cheaper shuttle buses and no english speakers.

It should be easy for an English teacher to ask a detailed question.
But to be honest, when I go on facebook and read what people post, wow.... amazing. And these people think they are the product of a world class education system !!!
Ask School (anonymously) for their address in Chinese characters, put it on your phone (or print it), and show it to the cab driver. You should also have School's rep. phone number, so you can call them if any trouble on your way.

How stupid are people, read your fucking contract you moron. If your contract states airport pickup then demand reimbursement for the taxi. You seem too stupid to figure it out but keep the receipt. But if they are unwilling to follow the contract on that matter, find another school.
If the contract does not state airport pick up, get off your high horse and take a taxi or find another school. We are adults not babies, we should not need someone to hold our hands.

I think you are right . Schools that hire teachers who are coming to China for the first time can't risk anything happening to them.

Chinese won't say to you 'we won't pick u up from the Airport'.
And then add 'and as soon as you arrive to the School, we'll have lunch with Headmaster'.
Can't write it in the Contract, either. Signed Contract goes to SAFEA at FEC application.
Send an anonymous driver to pick an anonymous person from an anonymous airport. Wonder where that leads to? An anonymous school? The wonders of anonymity!
