Q: School Security in China?

My daughter goes to a Government school.

Today, I left work early to go pick her up.  Christmas and all that.

Wow.

The security is intense.  They have long poles at the gate to capture knife nutters, hoops on poles, batons, cameras, road barriers.  Special ID cards to pick up kids, iphone apps and android apps.

But no guns.

A question to the right wingers...

How can I be sure my daughter is safe at school if she is banned from packing a glock in her lunchbox?

It's a silly question yes.

But come on. The Chinese Ploice don't carry guns. How can they protect the Chinese People if they don't carry guns.

How can they oppress the people without guns?

Where are the guns in China?

Have you seen them?

Actually the truth be know ..I hate Guns .even though they played a very big part of my life in my younger days .
I love this facial reconition technology and how it puts a face to the crime..sometimes before but to often after .
While as I stated my dislike for firearms I do believe there is a place for them in the right hands when the need arises.
so I have no objections to an armed guard being posted outside a school if the risk warranted it .
Guns are cheaper than wages so 1 trained guard with a gun is cheaper than 4 guards with sticks .
pleas pay attention to all the words not just the ones you want to see

you do have to give the chinese credit for making most of the guns in the world but not letting most citizens have them, so the rest of the world will kill each other off and the chinese will be the only ones still standing to run the world long term. that is real long term thinking.

might be a good idea to show her self defense for a knife attack, the overweight, chain smoking, guards at the schools don't inspire confidence and I have seen young healthy cops get there ass kicked by tiger moms. I'm not sure if hand to hand tactics and self defense are taught very well here, perhaps they pay the instructor off with a red envelope and play computer games instead. Nobody can handle cold weather here very well and hiding a long knife in a winter coat is child's play.

the security is tense because any attack results in the leaders of the school all fired and the minister of education for the province, severe loss of face.

Yes, Uzi-type guns at money transfers from banks.... all protection you need around 5-ish pm.

However, security at my School is tense at lunch breaks: 'not-boarding students have IDs for entering &exiting the Campus'.

We also have cops present at major crossings during any of the School breaks since a month ago.

retiredinchina:

perhaps there has been some intelligence tips of an impending attack if this is new in the last 30 to 60 days, wonder if it is happening everywhere, the guards at the local school near me have doubled to 6 from 3 this month, and they are standing outside the gate watching people not inside the gate, and the principals and leaders who used to stand outside and shake hands with parents and greet them are not around anymore.

Only change seen at my School/city are cops on traffic crossings during School breaks (lunch& end of classes at 5:10pm).

On other side of the road is military compound, which walls are full of happy soldiers and top Chinese leaders pics, painted on the compound walls.

We have tow-trucks circling the city for unlawful parked cars. It's the first city in China, I've seen such trucks. Traffic cameras, too.

We do security and things in my town.

Every year end is like this for PRC. This is the time CCP's high ranking officers make their "annual southern audit trip". So, hookers, local food market illegal stands operators, night clubs, ....... all pack up and go home and have an early holiday. Of course, you better have those thick hongbaos ready when the "auditors" come and inspect your city, and for the owners of night clubs, pay before they come to the relevant authorities, well in advance. It lasts until chinese new year when the "national audit teams" go home like Santa, with gifts for everyone in the guanxi network up north. Job well done, every year. Things return to "normal" after chinese new year. This is the old-normal.

yeah,,, heightened security.  didn't some nutcase just drive a truck through a market in Beijing?  Killed 4 if I remember correctly.  I thought people were saying it was the Uighurs?  Maybe they are expecting another attack?

China definitely breaks out the firearms when they figure they need them.

Again you prove yourself to be braindead. When China is really serious about security, they break out the guns (money transport, when guarding their leaders, when the threat of terror attack is high), so those facts under cut your point. They're not using guns simply because the threat level isn't high. But again, you prove that ideologues are morons (both right and left) because they can't apply logic and they're blind to relevant facts.
