Q: Is the search engine Bing being blocked?

No longer having access to Google I have recently taken to using Bing. But as of a couple of days ago Bing is only showing Chinese search results. Does anyone else have any problems accessing English search results using Bing or is this only local?

Also is this the start of another crackdown against foreign search engines - will it be possible to use Bing in the near future in other words?

bing is working "fine" for me, the results are still usable. maybe you are being redirected to bing.cn

SwedKiwi1:

I am automatically redirected to bing.cn and it doesn't appear to be possible to change either the location or the language. It is possible that this is a local problem on the side of my server if others don't have it.

Hmm, it's working for me but does give a lot of Chinese results. I've had to start adding "UK", etc in my searches to improve them.

Make sure you switch off the "use my location" function.

Lot's of the results will still be Chinese sites, but you should be able to find enough in your desired language.

I live in Guangdong and everything is fine, Google is still blocked as are most news websites, blog platforms and social medias from abroad, fortunately my VPN (or sort of, Goagent) is still working fine, I can even watch 1080p videos on Youtube without waiting for it to load.

I already did and still advise Goagent as an alternative to any paid VPN. You only need a Google account and to open a Appengine account.

SwedKiwi1:

Will try goagent and see if I can get access. Thanks.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
