Q: Sending money home via Western Union

I would like to send money to my daughter in law in the UK using Western Union.  Does anyone know if I can do this in any Banks in Shanghai?  If so, what paperwork do I need to take with me and do they speak any English.  Any information gratefully received.

Thanks

have to buy foreign currency first to send it. everbright bank and postal savings usually handle western union , probably more in shanghai, the document is small print , bear down so it goes through the carbon, use capital letters for everything or they will type something wrong and you have to start over. i would imagine the blackmarket in front or the bank or  inside hsbc can get british pounds for you.

I have used b4 to send wampum to an Ola.  it was down in SZ @ an ABC that I did this.  They insisted on fresh, clean USA $;  20,50,or 100's. no marks on the bills (careful be,,,, because many banks/money-changers mark on bills).

Passport, and fill out the form very carefully.

Transfer status can be tracked online.  The recipient will need ID & the MTCN. Fee was reasonable,,,  15 US if I recall correctly.

Um, sorry. I was not able to understand most of the abbreviations.  Could you translate please? Thanks!

hehe,, I did it on purpose...

the only one that matters is MTCN:  Money Transfer Control Number.  That is the # WU assigns to the specific transaction. Many recipients just show up with their ID and are way inconvenienced when they find they must provide the MTCN too.  (heads up)

Hey there. You can only send $500 a day. Go to a China everbright. Bring all your documents and passports. Try to find one where there's a person who speaks english cause it makes it much easier.

you can send up to 2000 but the bank will only convert 500 a day of currency , so go to the bank to convert for 4 days or buy dollars on blackmarket outside.i never convert at banks, my school has a reputable money man that takes care of all the teachers and gives us a better rate than the bank.
