Is there any chance of identity theft?
Has anyone heard about or experienced identity theft resulting from this?

Most employers require a scan or photocopy of ones anal cavity and/or breasts for further identification. Generally these are hard to steal. Don't scan your internal organs.
A relatively good question considering your passport is a sacred document and should probably not be shared as an emailed scan with anyone - particularly suspect agents and "prospective employers". It's none of their f*cking biznis anyway. Do you get to see their so-called "qualifications"? That is, if they even have any...
The other junk - CV, certs, photo, etc. are probably safe to send out into the ether.
My guess is that ID theft is not as rampant as you may believe, but if you fall victim to it ever, you can probably blame it on displaying your passport pages to Internet nutters who ask for it.
And as far as the 2 idiots who have already replied to your query, ignore them. They are neither funny, witty nor helpful.
you remind me of a senior citizen that came to my old company back in the states to applyfor a job. he was making a big stink about not wanting to put his social on the application. because sb at the senior citizen center told him he should not give out his social
GuilinRaf:
Actually, he is right.
When I was a prosecutor, most of the identity theft cases seen by our office were due to unscrupulous people taking or copying the SS number of the victims.
Every month, we would give the community orientation that unless it is a government entity or applying for a bank account, etc. to never give your SS #
When it comes to employment, never include it in the resume/CV, but be willing to provide it for the purpose of checking with "E-verify" or background checks. CV's and Resume's get lost, misplaced, etc. so they should not have ones SS number.

gr that's all fine and good but he came down to our office to apply for a job.
I usually refuse to send anything to them. I will take it to them when I get an interview. I am rather cautious when it comes to this stuff as I have already had my identity stolen here. I was put on some website advertising teachers, some of the info was correct but most was made up rubbish. I had not sanctioned nor asked for them to do it.
