Q: Seriously what is with the language songs?
If I ask am I the only one who is irritated by certain songs, I will likely get some un-sarcastic and more pedantic answer. So I will just gripe away anyway.
Three songs have caught my attention on a music packs from the States (no offense America, but some of you have got a lot to answer for).
1) Green bottles are standing on the wall. How are they hanging on it? Ok you could say hanging from... But not hanging on.
2) Walking, walking, walking, walking, JUMP, JUMP, JUMP! Not hop, hop, hop. In the video, the guy is clearly jumping.
3) You put your right hand in, you TAKE your right hand out. You can't technically put your hand out, unless it is on fire, and even then you are putting the fire on your hand out.
Has anyone else heard some children's songs that just make them cringe?
Down voters, I don't care. Notice how I say this without it being edited?

Oh God!
That song that you mention in No. 3!! Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"You do the 'hokey pokey' and you spin yourself around....."
It is almost as bad as "Barney the Dinosaur's" theme song: "I love you, you love me...."
It will be forever before I get those stupid songs out of my head.
Where's the bai jiu???
DaveP84:
Even Chinese whiskey is not strong enough to thwart the onslaught of having those damn songs stuck in your head for days on end...
I was addicted to the hokey pokey, but I got over it. I turned myself around, and that's what it's all about...
kiss me my darling .. be mine tonite ...it's now or never be mine tonite
It is not just little kids songs that get over done
If I hear Telephone in Chinglish or in any other language
I am going to hang up![]()
Can somebody sing me soft kitty to make Telephone go away![]()
GuilinRaf:
"soft kitty deaf kitty
kitty with no songs!
if you play a stupid song
he wont know it' s wrong.....![]()
OK OK! my stupid song makes no sense, but I am out of coffee.![]()
WANNA FIGHT!!!!!![]()
![]()
I'm a little concerned that maybe...just maybe...the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about.
CURSE YOU BARNEY THE DINOSAUR AND YOUR STUPID SONG!!!!!![]()
And you too DaveP84!!!!! May your school be inundated by American teachers with "hillbilly twangs" and bad grammar!!!!!!!!![]()
GuilinRaf:
AND....
May the parents and bosses of your school say to you "Why cant you speak more like them??!!
![]()
Number 2 you are right. I learned that song this year and the way they sing it is jump jump jump and not hop hop hop. It goes walking walking walking walking, jump jump jump, jump jump jump, running running running running running running now let's stop!
It's the same type of rhythm that you use in 'where is thumbkin'! ![]()
Dave, You don't have to teach those songs if you don't want to. You do teach in China, right? There are some great ESL websites out there that will direct you to teaching English through song. Think American folk songs, Beatles, for starters. Some sites offer entire lesson plans based on some really great songs. And if you play a musical instrument, even better. Nothing like live music in the classroom for teaching language.
DaveP84:
I am still on my baby feet in china, but yes I do have access to a wide variety of English songs. Trouble is, I have no control over the music they choose to play during the children's morning exercises. They play those very songs that I have listed.
