Looking for a substantial microphone/headset combination that folds for travel, USB or analog. Price should be something less than the US national debt, thanks.

Yes. Just ask any university student. It is at a subway stop on the east side of town.
You could check out Cybermart on Huaihai Zhonglu or Electronic City on Xiangyang Nan Lu. Address and details here:

The problem when you buy at these places is that you have the price for foreigners, the price for Chinese and the price for people who can bargain....Up to you to know which one you are.
If you read a bit of Chinese, or have a friend to do it for you, check on
http://www.newegg.com.cn/
They have price cheaper than in those shops and all have a guarantee. I have always been really satisfied by their services (hard disks, headphones, DVD drive, etc)
Actually, the problem is when you buy at any of those places, you get exactly what you pay for. While it seems like a deal, it's NOT. Anyone willing to sell you a headset or a USB for $2 is going to make a profit and they pass the savings on to you.
Go to Media Markt, buy actual stuff, and save the complaining. Because you will when the headset you bought for 25rmb from Seny of Jepan or Samsueang breaks and stops working after 2 weeks (if that).
