There is a direct shuttle bus from Huanggang checkpoint in Shenzhen to the HK airport. The ticket costs about 100. The drive takes about an hour, but give yourself 90 minutes because you might need to wait for the bus to fill up with enough people to head out.
hi2u:
Actually last time I did this there was a big coach bus that we had to wait to fill up to head out. The times before it was just a minivan or car to take us. Just follow the English signs and you should be fine.
It's easiest just to get the ferry direct from Shenzhen Shekou to airside HK airport:

When you arrive at the airport don't forget to collect your tax rebate from the desk. You get about HK$120 back because you are not using the land side facilities.
The trip takes about half an hour, and the departures are scheduled. Cost is about 200 RMB I think.
There is also the Shenzhen Fuyong to HK airport ferry.

hi2u:
This is also good. It depends which one is more convenient for him. Huanggang is in Futian and requires a taxi to get to.

I find it a lot easier hi2u because you do not actually need to enter/leave HK. You get chopped out of China at the ferry terminal and go direct to airside. Just check in and go through security. And with some airlines you can check in at the ferry terminal on mainland China. I prefer Shekou myself because there are more departures.
hi2u:
@scotsalan So does that mean you don't get your passport stamped on the way out? If so will they let you go back through the checkpoints to the mainland since there's no exit stamp?
ScotsAlan:
You get your exit stamp at the ferry terminal. Another advantage of the ferry is no long line to wait in. You only have a ferry load of people passing through immigration. You are effectivley entering HK airport while still on the mainland. You miss out the entering and leaving hong kong bit.
ScotsAlan:
Oh. the disadvantage of the ferry is that one you are in the airport you cant enter HK. So if your flight is delayed you are stuck in the airport.

"So if your flight is delayed you are stuck in the airport" TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!
During that time of the Icelandic volcano with the long name I was traveling back to the UK. Took the ferry direct to the airport, got there & was told there might be a delay. 48 hours later I was still f***ing there!!!!! All flights cancelled & I wasn't allowed into HK because I was "in transit". Bloody long story but eventually, on the 2nd day, had to take ferry back to Shenzhen & walk over the border to HK. After 2 days in HK headed back to work in GZ because no flights. Eventually managed to get a flight back to the UK one week later.....when I had 2 days left on my China visa!
Ever seen the movie "Terminal Man"? I was Terminal Man No.2!!!!
