Q: Short-term accommodation?

I'm leaving Beijing in October but my rental lease will expire 2 months before that so basically I need to find a place to stay for that period of time.

What would you do in that situation? What would be the cheapest option?

Basically I can pay up to around 5000 per month so that rules out hotel apartments and so on. Any suggestions would be warmly welcomed, thank you!

Just ask your landlord if you can stay 2 more months! Im sure they wont care. Thats what I have always done and never had anyone say no. In fact they are happy to get a few more months rent before trying to find a new tenant.

mike695ca:

Also, If the apartment is already spoken for, you can go to a real estate company or look online and just find an apartment that will except a short term rental.  Its a little more costly, but still much cheaper than a hotel for 2 months, and certainly under 5K.

I have done that every time I have moved to a new city. You dont know what areas you like untill you have had some time to walk around and check out the scene so first month is always a short term apartment.

Yeah just ask to extend for 2 more months, unless they already have a tenant lined up (or the rental market has just exploded in your area and your contract is way below market) they have no reason to say no.

Naturaly Beijing is more expensive than here in Small Town, but can't you stay a month in 7Days Inn for 5000 ?

Scandinavian:

The idea of short term renting an apartment is of course way better than this

Get a Chinese friend to help you search ganji.com or you can check the rental agents that advertise on this site.

I used to stay in beijing. there are rooms you can rent monthly for 2000 rmb and the contract is 1 month period and 1 month deposit. it was located in Renmin University. You can check it out. I also have many friends there in Beijing. Please let me know if you need further support.
