Q: Should foreign governments interfere in a nation's internal politics?

I've been listening to the news regarding Iran and whether it has nuclear capability or not, and how there's the Atomic Energy Commission and their report. And I thought to myself, "why shouldn't Iran (or any other sovereign nation) be allowed to develop a nuclear (or biological or chemical) weapon program if they choose to?". What RIGHT does any other nation have to tell any other nation what they can or can't do? And, I note, it's usually those nations that already have their own arsenal that are giving these orders.

This also ranges into other topics, such as internal politics, punishments, treatment of people, etc etc.

What do you think??

ETA: Who gets to decide? As I commented on below, what about China's chemical and biological arsenal - why is that ok? Or Saudi's? Or Israel not being required to say whether they have nukes or not, but Iran and Iraq had (have) to prove they don't???

OK, tell me how this planet or any country...including your own....would be safer with a nuclear armed Iran?
Do you have any knowledge of geopolitical international history?
This will not end well, but rest assured, no war will happen here...just posturing.

Shining_brow:

Yes, I'm quite aware of "geopolitical international history". While I used a very specific example, there are many many others that I could also use! What about, for example, North Korea? How about Japan, should they choose to invest in them. How about China developing chemical and biological weapons....

OK...what happened when the civilized world cow towed to Germany in '39?
My issue is with your consideration for sovereignty.  If Germany made the bomb before America, we would live in a very different world.

Agree with 'thedude' - the world will be a scary place if we just let everybody do as they like with nuclear resources

The ones holding the power (US, China) with the destructive methods consider themselves the keepers of peace, while countries like Iran are considered hostile and irrational. That's what they say to convince others anyway. But at the end of the day, it's just a power game and sovereignty is just an excuse for other countries to not medal with Western countries. When has the West ever respected soverignty? They interfere in any country they want as long as it serves their own interests, but once another country tries to do the same they pull out the red card. It's all just bullshit.

@denny: Countries have been interfering with one another since the beginning of time. Be thankful that the ones who "interfere" are the ones who will NOT drop a nuclear warhead on the city that you live in just because you don't believe in the same "god" as they do.

I understand the basic principle, and I agreee with you in theory. But you have to ask yourself: do you want a regime that bases the better part of its ideology and propaganda around hating you to have nuclear arms?

I'm all for fairness and that, but the Iranians sure aren't. Following their ideologues, every other country in the world - including the predominantly Sunni muslim world - is inferior and the enemy, and worth less than dirt. None of those patient and thought out principles of fair play will ever be reciprocated.

Doesn't really matter what denomination they believe, what matters is that they have a right to defend themselves from Israel.Or any other country for that matter

When those foriegn governments are under a direct threat for said country, they have full rights. Look at the Cuban missle crisis.

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
