Q: should I go to Hong Kong to get new laptop? windows7
I am getting pretty perturbed with this thing... only 4 years old...but is getting a replacement (.windows 7 I hope ,,8 is bad I've heard.... when is 9?), how many times a month do you do system restore?

I would not buy a computer in China. But that is my preference. And yes, I would buy one in Hong Kong. And that is fpor the following reasons:
1.- It will be cheaper in Hong Kong, and I did negotiate a small discount but many freebies.
2.- It is not supposed to have installed software by Chinese censor odfficials controlling what you can see. Make sure you ask and do check it, I bought mine about 1-1/2 years ago, maybe it is different now and the firewall is installed in Hong Kong too.
You will get anything in HK around 25% cheaper than in Mainland. Currency exchange is around 1Rmb = 1.25 HK$.
I usually make all purchases above 500 Rmb in HK. There is a small problem with HK, if you're not close by:
I purchased hard drive in HK Apple store in June this year, which died as soon as I returned to China. To get an exchange or repair, I must return to HK Apple.
Definitely yes for three reasons.
1. Electronics will always be cheaper in HK, in Mainland there is a value added tax on everything electronic that is 20%, this and the exchange rate also making it 25% cheaper in addition to the lack of VAT.
2. In Mainland fake electronics are common. As for the OS on your laptop it will probably be a cracked version updating through a relay Chinese website and not Microsoft servers.
3. I would not trust a Mainland based customer service, even from big names like MSI or Asus.
I will never buy another PC, Windows 8 sucks, too many issues, can't really use explorer and it should be a good program, I like the option and set up better than Chrome, no email programs, had to get a new printer as no patches to work n W8. Vista etc use to just crash, Bill Gates needs to fix one program and keep at it.

As long as you don't say this while defending Mac then I agree. There seems to be a rule with Big M, one OS out of two is good.
Windows 95 = crap
Windows 98 = good
Windows 2000 = crap
Windows XP = good
Windows Vista = crap
Windows 7 = good
Windows 8/8.1 = crap
Windows 10 = ???

It sounds like you are just wanting windows 7. You can buy a genuine version online. Wipe the computer completely and install the operating system. That is what I did. It removes all the preinstalled spyware (360 for example). I was sick and tired of chinese software thinking it was ok to install stuff without my permission and show me adverts. I have removed all chinese software except sogou.

I forgot to mention, if you get windows 7 don't forget to buy the 64bit version as the 32bit doesn't support RAM higher than 2GB.

I have 64bit .. and I have 4MB Ram... just doesn't seem to be enough... I stream a lot of sports while I didly f**k around.....a question though, I do believe I have 64 bit, but I just downloaded that or changed it somehow.... is that possible? I think this thing started out as 32 bit

I thought they had stopped supporting it, or will be soon and you couldn't buy it anymore.
I'm sort of in the same situation. I need to replace my laptop soon but don't want win8 on it. I was thinking I'll try to hold out until the new windows is released but if I could still use 7 that would be great.

@bhgal, I am not sure if it is possible to upgrade it from 32bit to 64bit. I think it is a seperate disc. I am also usong 4GB and the 64bit version. @stiggs, I bought mine on taobao. It is the genuine version and it is in English. I did buy it over a year ago though. When they say that they no longer support it that just means there will be no more updates for the operating system. It should still function properly.
