I dont mind the questions. And, if someone is dating a police officer or soldier or other government official, which means guanxi on the one hand and probably loss of position etc. if the official marries a foreigner, then I thnk the question is well worth asking.

Are your reasons for marrying her sentimental ones, or materialistic ones?

For me, if  love her, and she loves me, of course I would marry her, making no difference the rest.  Nothing wrong with having money or connections, if true love exists.

As for materialistic reasons, she got money and connections, so you better concentrate on making her happy, otherwise your life will become miserable.

Yeh, my thinking on marriage is it's about two people and nothing else. My wife's family are poor as shit, as am I. I'd only ever think about the person, not what she can do for you or what you can/can't do for her. If she wants you, don't question it. If she accepts you as you are, don't question it. If you want to marry her for what she can do to you, I would question that. She deserves the opportunity to find that rare and wondrous thing (que music) sweet amore. Not fair to deny her that opportunity. But if you really love the girl, then sweet. Sounds like you're kind of rushing things though, what ever happened to giving it six months or a year to really get to know each other? Me and the wife waited five years before tying the knot.

Yes, I too am worried that they may be rushing things a bit.  I would seriously wait at least six months (preferably a year) before giving serious thought to marriage.

I do hope for them the best.

Only if you truly and honestly love her and she feels the same way toward you.

Just dont rush into anything, especially marriage. If you both love each other, there is no need to rush.

Of course, another way to look at it is...  What do you bring to the table that makes it worth her while to give up all the power, perks and money in her future?  What do you have that enhances her life?  Besides love and being a good hubby.

I am not trying to be an ass, just playing the devils advocate.  You don't need to answer, but it might be worth thinking about.

Sure, but remember, it works both ways. If you do her wrong, all that power and connected people are going to rain down upon your head in a fit of fire and destruction, so...be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

In the meantime, treat her like the precious jewel that she is. Anything worth anything at all is worth any risk.

Crea, in my experience here, I have to say that they all have some form of guanxi.

I would venture to say that every single person on the street would tell you that they have connections. That has no bearing in any way as to whether or not you should consider marriage. Guanxi is a part of their lives and they all strive for it. There is no getting away from it so ignore it for now and move forward with the relationship as you normally would.

I created an account on this site just so I could tell you could give you a thumbs down. Which you will no doubt make 3 new threads to whine about. I am scrolling through the front page now and a good 1/3 of it is your asshattery. Stop being so vain and let people use the site for something other than your personal facebook or twitter. God Bless
