Hi group, I've been offered a job in Seattle area making slightly better money than I make in China with twice the time off 6 weeks annually vs 3 weeks in China. The job is the same title with slightly fewer people to manage (90 vs 130) and I will manage 1 department where I currently manage 3 departments. I came to China 6 years ago and have accomplished everything I was asked and while I was not job hunting I was contacted by a head hunter for this position in Seattle. I could easily stay here for a few more years, but in my field at my level there aren't always opportunities readily available. The new facility is nice, but there is improvements that need to be made and challenges to overcome. My current company doesn't want me to leave and has asked what would it take for me to stay. I feel so damned conflicted about it, but must decide by the end of the week.

Do I get it right that you are high ranked manager (managing 3 departments and about 100 people) and ask about your future professional development at Internet forum not exactly related to career?
Wish you luck irrespective what will be your choice (if there is of course any choice as it can be just hypothetical question)...

Actually I just did it to see what a bunch of expat teachers thoughts were. It would weigh little to nothing on what I decide to do. However, I did think it was a better question than am I pretty, Was I wrong, or who is a troll and who is not.
My mistake
It sounds like you are ready to move to Seattle: 6 years is a long time and maybe you are ready for the next stage and the next big challenge
some questions you can ask yourself:
What (if any) are the benefits of remaining in China?
How will your overall quality of life change in Seattle?
i would look at things such as health-care, environment etc as also deciding factors
How much extra effort do you have to put into day-to-day issues in Seattle compared to China?
in Seattle, the 'world is your oyster' whereas China will continue to close in on itself for the next few years anyway, maybe limiting you in more ways you can now imagine.
You are not a 'flake': 6 years in China shows that you commit to your life, not forever changing your mind or being unreliable.
It sounds like this opportunity is the next logical step for you.
go for it.

Why do you answer this seriously? I don't begrudge people more successful than me. What I don't like are wierdo fantasists that pretend to be what they are not. You get quite a few of these people on these forums. Would you want someone running your company who asks for career advice on an internet forum? He seems overly keen to point out successes. Trust me, he's s loser
Leave China. Why you stay here for toxic air,bad food and bad water?

Just make sure the job is as advertised. If there is a lot of vagueness, better to stick with the devil you know.
are u familiar w/ Seattle? can be very nice there, especially for someone like u that has the dosh to make it nice. Of course it is a city, w/ city problems. Anyway, I would go for it if I were u.
*for fun I will list 1 upside & 1 downside to Seattle
Up: God given view of Mt. Rainier
Down: Earthquakes

Speaking of Seattle without ever mentioning the rain, wait what ^^
Hard to offer up advice without knowing more about your situation.
If you have kids and a family, go to Seattle without a second thought. The education and medical alone is enough to move.
If you don't and enjoy China, negotiate a better salary and stay. People like to complain and play "the grass is always greener on the other side" but China isn't THAT bad or else you wouldn't have been here 6 years right?
Seattle may sound like it is an easier position but working in the U.S. will probably be more stressful on work productivity (meaning you may have to work twice as hard, just because of the culture).
If it were me, I would stay in China if you are single.... if married with children, then I would leave.
Anybody that comes onto a forum like this to ask people a question they cannot answer, does not manage 130 people in a medical research company. I smell bull
