Q: Should you stop a fight if it happens or simply walk away?

I have seen several fights in Beijing. One involved an elderly lady and a younger guy. The other fight I saw was with an elderly man and a younger guy. I saw a mom beat her kid and drag him on the dirty ground in the morning time. One time I walked down the stairs from the subway a woman was mad and yelling. The lady approached the guy from behind and grabbed him and he did a back kick right to her stomach as she fell helplessly to the ground. They were standing right next to me.

I was thinking what should I do. On some of those situations I had to get somewhere and people were just walking pass them. The incidents happened on a bus, in the subway station and in front of a store.

What would you do? Is it better to not get involved at all? What if it was two people whose strengths were obviously not equal to one another such as the elderly man and elderly woman against the younger guys? Or the woman beating her kid? Pretty much dragging him and ripping his clothes off his back and smacking him on his back while it was cold outside.

They will all tell you to walk away, unless locals have ganged up on a foreigner and you can help.

Personally, I think YOU should always jump in and help. Not everyone, just you.

if you are really american you wouldnt need to ask this question. 2 guys or 2 girls. that's a fair fight who cares sit from a distance and watch. a young man beating up a elderly woman cautiously intervene simply by placing yourself in between them. dont take sides the elderly woman could be a thief. be sort of friendly to the attacker to let him know you're not a threat. if the attacker turns on you put him down, dont pummel him. keep your eyes up for his partners. let the elderly lady get away.
same thing if it was a child being beaten up, or a woman being beat by a man. but those situations will be very risky. the bottom line is this. i was a human being before i came to this country and when i leave my humanity will still be intact. i treat locals the same as any other  because they are human beings.
i mean seriously beaten up, not just a few slaps . i mean serious enough to where it might endanger their lives
once it's all over dont wait around thinking your going to get a metal, get the hell out of there, go straight home and pack your bags

nevermind:

Domestic disputes are always tricky cause half the time if you intervene the couple will become a untied front against you.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
