Q: Sichuan Peppers / Japanese Sansho. Anyone like this stuff?

Out of all the places I've visited in China, I've never had a dish with Sichuan pepper until I went to Beijing. It was love at first taste bud! I found a dish consisting of eggplant, sichuan peppers, string beans and red hot chile peppers.

I loved it so much that I had to ask my wife what it was, and I vowed to eat it as often as possible. Now that I'm back in the States, I bought a small jar of this stuff, and it's just amazing. Is it a narcotic? It feels like I'm floating on a cloud when I eat this stuff.

Yes. Love them. The way they spicy up the food is so much more pleasant than e.g. the Hunan style of just adding ridiculers amounts of chili.

I haven't actually been to Sichuan province, but as far as I hear, the food there is better than what you'd get at a Beijing Sichuan restaurant.

Hulk:

EXACTLY! It's just amazing, especially with ginger.

I can't stand the excessive adding of chile peppers in Hunan. By the way, that is not limited to Hunan. They do it in pretty much every province I've been to.

Scandinavian:

Hunanese people are still the only I have seen that can be given a dish consisting of 99% chili and then add some chili sauce on top because it is not spicy enough. :) I think Chongqing also has a reputation of very spicy food
