Has anyone been skiing around Beijing? I'm thinking of going this weekend, I'm a total beginner, never been before but my friends and I want to try.

I really envy how on earth you get that much time and energy if you really are working because all the time I read from you is; ice skating, skiing, ktv stuff and so on... tell me the tips guru

icnif77:

Get a pair of skies. You might choose water type skies, since snow in Bj is rare occurrence.

There are a few places to ski around Beijing http://www.nanshanski.com/index-en.asp is one of the most famous ones.

However I do have to warn you, it does get very busy on the weekend and during public holidays! You know how the Chinese drive and cycle, well imagine all of that on skis...Coordination is not their forte.

Also, beware that medical services at this place are of a very "Chinese" standard god forbid you hurt yourself.

Sorry for being so negative, I've had a "China" day.

If you wanna spend a good weekend, take the train and go to Zhangjiakou, 200km away from Beijing. There are some good places for skying. Zhangjiakou is trying to be the host city of the 2022 winter olympics.

Or, if you wanted to go a little further, and probably invest  2 or 3 days you can go to Jilin and go here  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beidahu,_Jilin

It was the host of the 2007 winter Asian games and is a pretty good ski field.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
