I don't see why it shouldn't be able to make good wine in China or be able for a Chinese company to buy a winery in France and then re-bottle stuff in China? 

So far I've not had luck with Chinese wines. Some have been decidedly foul, some have been pretty bad, some have been boring, none have been good. But hey, I am not running around trying all of them. 

Why do they have to insist in making wine?!? Make tea, make something you know about, make something that belongs to your culture.

Already wrote a post about China wine some time ago. in the past, when imported wine wasn't so abundant as today, I tried several chinese wines, ranging from 20 to 70 rmb/bottle.

The only one barely drinkable was a 2007 Great Wall Cabernet Sauvignon. By barely drinkable I mean I could accept it being in China, in my home country I would puch the barman in his nose if he would dare to sell such thing. As long as I could find stock of that specific year. It was 27 rmb back then. All the others, included the 70rmb bottles, good only for floor cleaning.

If they won an award, they might have mixed it up with Sprite....

In similar with what @Scandinavian said, I do not see why China could not produce award winning wines... I have never tried any but I have made my own wine and beer and its a pretty straight forward process... it just depends on how involved you wish to get involved with it... Although I hope they start to experiment with their own wine, such as Shaoxing rice wine... I actually enjoy it very much but it would be exciting to see someone in china mess with the recipe and see what happens

I tried so many different thing in China that were just plain terrible. It spoiled me from wanting to try new things. Why waste my money? I've read that China has some good wines. I did try one bottle and it was OK. I read that Chinese wines aren't imported and something about the cost because they sell for under $5.

 I live in Pr. Edward County, Ont. The place is filling up with wineries but they sell the wines for approx $50 a bottle, never tried any at that price. Why, when I can buy good German or French wines way cheaper. Canadian wines used to be shit.

I just wonder who they paid off to get the award?

Who knows, most of the wines I have tried here are too acidic to consider being good. The only one I have tried that was quite drinkable was called St Michel, supposedly imported from France and sold for about 73rmb. Even if they did produce a wine to international acclaim it would be so damned expensive as to not make it worthwhile. When I think that I can buy off the supermarket shelf back in the UK some decent wines for the equivalent of 65rmb there is nothing here to come anywhere near that in terms of taste or price.

  Award winning flavour and quality? I've drunk my share and i'd be hard pressed to apply either of those words to any i've tried. The only two words that come to mind in fact are 'vapour trails', which is not exactly a complaint, but it's hardly a stamp of approval.
