China tests ‘Mother of All Bombs’

China drops its 'Mother of All Bombs'

China has built its most powerful non-nuclear weapon, a rival to the US ‘Mother of All Bombs’.

Chinese defence manufacturer NORINCO released a video of the devastating device being dropped from a supersonic H-6 bomber. It caused a massive ball of fire and black smoke on impact.

The official Xinhua news agency described it as the “Chinese version of the ‘Mother of All Bombs’. No details about the date, location or range of the bomb blast were given.

In 2017, the US dropped the its most powerful conventional bomb – known as the ‘Mother of All Bombs’ or MOAB – in a bid to destroy Islamic State tunnels in Afghanistan. Although it has the same nickname, the Chinese weapon is believed to be smaller and lighter.

Chinese defence analyst Adam Ni told nine.com.au the device –up to six metres in length - could be used against large concentrations of enemy forces or underground bunkers and reinforced buildings.

“Bombs like this one have the devastating effect of a nuclear weapon but without the effects.”

Mr Ni, of the Australian National University, said the bomb is part of Beijing’s has been rapid military modernisation under President Xi Jinping. The island of Taiwan – which China claims as part of its territory – and US bases in the Pacific could be potential targets.

“China is developing both nuclear and conventional weapons. Building conventional weaponry can be done without raising the same levels of alarm as nuclear ones.”

China President Xi Jinping has begun a big modernisation of the nation's military. ()

But, despite the awesome destruction it could wreak, Mr Ni said the bomb also gives Beijing “propaganda value”.

“It has a deterrent effect. In fact, it has as much propaganda value as on the battlefield. The bomb would have to be delivered by an aircraft that could be shot down en route.”

News of the bomb’s development comes as President Xi last week refused to rule out the use of force against what he described as foreign interventionists and separatists in Taiwan.

In a separate address to military commanders, he ordered the People’s Liberation Army to make sure it maintains full preparedness for battle, reports the China Daily newspaper.

Naw. the next war will see the end of humanity wherever you are because someone will try to prevent the US from winning by launching a nuclear weaponsad. If not killed directly then by radiation, hungerenlightened, infections, disease, or a combination of any of those. So I may as well stay here and keep teaching.

Leaving China 'why'? 'cause they have the most advanced bomb?

Chinese won't drop it in China ...

That's all part of last week's Chinese PR, i.e. liftin' up fighting moral in billions :

- Xi: "Taiwan is One-China-thingy and must be ..."

- General Zung or Pung: "PLA should sink 2 US carriers (with 10 000 troops on board combined) in SCS and see US 'we're scared ..."'

- Global Times and all China's press are apparently full of 'prepare for war' articles in last few weeks.

Zero is few days ahead of your Ozz press ... You copy ...

I saw an article at the weekend that says China has a ship deployed rail gun too.

That will be another 50 billion added to the next US defense budget.

A US guided-missile destroyer sailed near disputed islands in the South China Sea in what China has called a "provocation", as US officials joined talks in Beijing during a truce in a bitter trade war.

China and the US have repeatedly clashed over China building military installations throughout the South China Sea.© (Reuters/US Navy: Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Adam K. Thomas) China and the US have repeatedly clashed over China building military installations throughout the South China Sea. The USS McCampbell carried out a "freedom of navigation" operation, sailing within 12 nautical miles of the Paracel Island chain "to challenge excessive maritime claims", Pacific Fleet spokeswoman Rachel McMarr said in an emailed statement.

The operation was not about any one country or to make a political statement, Ms McMarr said.

The statement came as trade talks between China and the United States were under way in Beijing, the first round of face-to-face discussions since both sides agreed to a 90-day truce in a trade war that has roiled international markets.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said that the conduct of the US ship had violated Chinese and international law, and China had lodged "stern representations".

"We urge the United States to immediately cease this kind of provocation," he said, adding that China had sent military ships and aircraft to identify and warn off the ship.

Asked about the timing of the operation during trade talks, Mr Lu said resolving issues would benefit the two countries and the world.

"Both sides have the responsibility to create the necessary positive atmosphere for this," he said.

China claims almost all of the strategic South China Sea and frequently lambasts the United States and its allies for freedom of navigation naval operations near Chinese-occupied islands.

Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan have competing claims in the region.

There are fears the relationship between the US and China is cooling.© (Reuters: Kevin Lamarque) There are fears the relationship between the US and China is cooling. US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in December agreed to put on hold a spiralling trade dispute of tit-for-tat import tariffs on hundreds of billions worth of goods.

Mr Trump has imposed tariffs to pressure Beijing to change its practices on issues ranging from corporate espionage to market access and industrial subsidies.

China has retaliated with tariffs of its own.

Fears have grown in recent months that the dispute is just one vector in a bilateral relationship that is fast cooling across the board, with top administration officials sharply criticising Beijing for everything from human rights abuses to its influence operations in the United States.

The two countries are also at odds over regional security, including Washington's overtures to the self-ruled island of Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own.

China and the United States have repeatedly traded barbs in the past over what Washington says is Beijing's militarisation of the South China Sea by building military installations on artificial islands and reefs.

China defends its construction as necessary for self defence and says Washington is responsible for ratcheting up tensions in the region by sending warships and military plans close to islands Beijing claims.

US Issues Statement On Trade Meeting In Beijing

In the brief, sub-200 word statement, the USTR says that US and China negotiators discussed ways to achieve "fairness, reciprocity and balance in trade relations"; additionally, the talks also "focused on China's pledge to purchase a substantial amount of agricultural, energy, manufactured goods, and other products  and services from the United States" - something that is hardly news - while the two sides also discussed "the need for any agreement to provide for complete implementation subject to ongoing verification and effective enforcement."

In other words, absolutely no formal agreements or commitments and just more hot air, which begs the question: what was the point of this meeting if it achieved nothing in terms of trade, but then we look at the market's response which is up 5% in four days on "trade deal optimism" and suddenly it all becomes clear.

Canada will still be in hot water because when the Huawei exec goes to the US she will go straight to jail for a long time while the US judicial system is at a snails pace. Beijing will find another excuse to call Canada racist. She will stay in jail because Donald Trump shut down the government thereby slowing down the slow judicial system. Donald Trump is going to starve his own people. He is throwing many americans out of work. He is threatening america's food supply system by not paying the fedeal health inspectors. I told you so. The biggest threat to America ever is Donald Trump. I am comfortable staying right here in China. Soon the American people will try to get refugee status in Canada. I am sure Trump will want to build a wall along the 49th parallel. Maybe the americans can declare him mentaly unstable to safeguard their country. But then; America is a democracy, and the American people did elect him.
