Reading the news about the Kunming attack, and all Chinese media says separatists from 'Xinjiang'. Western media says but either puts it in "" or says that officials have yet to provide details of why they are saying Xinjiang separatists. Anyone heard anything new, got something more up-to-date.
I think the truth will never be found out and I won't dare go to speculations, anything is possible.
I honestly doubt it was separatists. This does not have the ring of terrorism. The location, why Kunming? The train station, why not during the spring festival rush? Random targets, seems like a family that was upset about something. But we will never know, there is a lot of censorship going on around this.
How would we know for sure? By the way do you know the background of the Boston bomber and his uncle? Google the story and you will see how easy it is to create fear in a country by a government that has become a plutocracy.

Ok, you brought up America. Yes you can google all the info you want about the suspects and probably their family. That is what you call transparency.
We will never know anything about the perpetrators of the Kunming attacks. Can you guess why?

I'm finally starting to agree with you Ted that this guy is a mouthpiece......pattern of attacking America as a defense of China is becoming clearer now.
I was in that very same railway station about 3 weeks ago and it looked the same as lots of others. That means there would certainly be cameras all over the place. Unless the assailants in this event were all wearing masks it would be pretty easy to tell whether or not they were Uyghirs.
Wielding knives has been their modus operandi in attacks in Xinjiang, and I'm blowed if I know why. They always lose...although often not before making some inroads into their Han police targets.
Whoever, whatever motivation...it just seems a crazy thing to do.
I'm sure glad they didn't hit the joint during Spring Festival though.
And my deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.
TMaster:
I wouldn't call necessarily conspiracy on that, the Chinese authorities aren't very fond of releasing pictures of such events, probably fearing internet backfire from whatever they'd have missed. But yes, any public hub being swarmed with cameras at every angle, they probably have a clear idea of what happened, and the public story is certainly being written in the bureau of fairy tales as we speak for a release in a few days.
About spring festival, you'd probably hurt more people by throwing a 100 note in the air at the station than with any knife you want.
