Q: So what are you doing during the Spring Festival holiday?

Seems that some of my xpat friends are stuck in remote villages without a shower for a few weeks. I almost went that route myself, but... well, I beat up her parents and brother for obvious reasons.

So I'm just sitting here playing WoW to kill time. Anyone else bored out of their minds? I mean I have to be pretty bored to reinstall WoW.

Probably hanging with mother-in-law, the wife has been taken out by an ailment, so the planned fun with taking the train to Changsha has been postponed. (although the honest answer is; I don't know as nothing is ever really planned)

Just moved into a new apartment so we are cleaning unpacking and stocking up on booze and food.  We will stay home this new year and have a few parties with friends who stayed in town.

Tons of food and even more drinking.

The last freaking thing I want to do is navigate the masses on a train or even a plane.

We can go back to her hometown after the madness is over.

Hulk:

I want to photograph the masses.

Yes, you should be very aware of they specially trained attach elephants. You can spot them as they are usually wearing glasses and a mustache to blend in the crowds, waiting to attach a foreigner.

I'm doing it. Lying next to the pool with a cold San Miguel beer and the temperetaure the exact opposite of where I live in China. Daqing -24C and Manila +24C. I like the balance in that don't you? next week it's the beaches of Cebu.

The train trip was great - no masses..... apart from the Catholic one being held on the 4th level of the mall and through which I walked oblivious to anything religious happening around me. Soft sleeper......terrific way to travel by the way.

Jealous!  I'll be there in a few days, barring any weather complications.  We're supposed to get rain/snow here

So you're in the Philippines? I think I'll go there next winter. Can you tell me, do they speak Spanish there? I hear they do, and they don't. I'm confused.

Have fun! Soak up the sun!

bill the language spoken on Luzon - the main island - is Tagalog. There is a smattering of Spanish in some of the words but it's a long way removed from that language. On Mindanao they speak another dialect called Visayan. Like most countries there are many dialects. However, the really good news is that nearly everybody speaks English....some good, some bad, some so-so. Their English is spoken in a Spanish / American accent. The Philippines is a very cheap place to stay and has beaches of astonishing beauty. Hope you make it. My winter getaway!

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
