Q: So what do the east and the west have to offer each other?
Democracy and family values, driving proficiency tests and an admirable work ethic. What does Asia have to offer its western counterpart.....and vice versa?
Asia can offer to build a real transportation network in the States. I have no urge to ever drive in China, whereas back home I had to rely on a car. If my car broke down, I was screwed. Not to mention how expensive it was to maintain and fuel it.
Chinese can learn some manners and how to act around other human beings in public from North America. The Canadians have a close relationship with China, not sure why their politeness doesn't rub off on them more. I hate smoking in buildings, spitters, and people who use sidewalks as baby toilets. I also miss people walking by and saying hello, and being generally friendly towards each other.
Most all Chinese do not concern themselves with religion, and their regard for life while sometimes a bit inhumane is much better than the extremism we see from some religious fanatics of Christianity and Islam. While the Chinese have a way to go to embrace mortality in more humane ways, at least there isn't religious wars breaking out, and laws being put in place because of one persons beliefs. All Western countries could learn how to separate church and State like China!
Europe could come in and show how Internet service should be truly free and open, and build out the infrastructure to make it reliable and faster. Likewise, China can show the US how to allow network carriers for cell phones how to be more open to spur competition and better pricing. I can buy any phone in the world, and use it in China, and at much cheaper pricing than the locked down crap that Verizon and AT&T try to contract your life into.
That's a few things, I'm sure some people will argue with my opinions, but it is an itneresting question.
West -> East, patience, driving etiquette, table manners, skiving at work, being generally lazy, life work balance
East -> West, work ethic, family values, superstition, getting things done, architectural design.
Of course I NEVER EVER believe in sweeping generalisations or stereotypes! ![]()
East--- I'm thinking Chopsticks
West--- Pizza !

Hugh.G.Rection:
If by Pizza you mean American pizza, so-so, not fussed at all.![]()
If, however, you mean the genuine Italian article thin crust where the base is the most important part, then HELL YEAH!
Hmm what I would do for a genuine Italian Calzone right now! ![]()
Gaohao:
An Italian Calzone. If you dropped that, would it make it a 'low'-calzone? GEDDIT? LOW-CAL-ZONE! GEDDIT? 'CAUSE IT'S ON THE FLOOR! LOW-CAL!
Aah, you don't geddit.
