Q: So what is the most money you paid out of pocket to hospital?

Let’s be real the way they do medical insurance here is without a doubt the most inefficient use of money I could ever imagine. What is the point of having the patient pay for the bill and then have him pray he gets paid by the fricking insurance company? There must be trillions of RMB sitting around doing nothing, when it could be put into the economy. So what is the most you have ever had to hand over before you were treated or after you were treated? I kind of get the feeling I should keep around 50,000 RMB on hand in case I have an appendicitis attack or a compound fracture both of which are unfortunately quite possible.

FYI: The money people put into insurance companies is reinvested in the economy. Yes, there is a risk the company will not pay for the treatment later, but you can still get a lot of coverage for a small annual contribution. Also, most insurances allow you to pull out your money if you no longer require the coverage.

If you think you can predict what types of medical issues you might encounter, you can also check this against the list of what is covered. E.g. some insurance contracts lists specific types of cancer, others just "cancer".

Scandinavian:

Oh. Wife was hospitalized last year, for about a week. We paid 1700 for having her admitted, the lady from the insurance company came the next day and told the hospital the rest would be covered. We did had to do a shitload of paperwork some weeks later, but no further money was paid.

Although I am not sure of the new Obama Care medical system, I can assure you that under the old insurance system my insurance premium was still mostly reinvested back into the economy, usually in the form of government bonds or AAA rated corporate bonds and even some riskier assets. The cash reserve rate for a large insurance company is usually less than 15%. There is absolutely no reason for all of the idel cash sitting around in the personal accounts of the average Chinese person perhaps making 1% or less.

I will admit that I am not sure how the rest of the world operates, but how many of them ask the individual to pay for everything upfront? Clearly no system is perfect and as a percentage of GDP America spends way to much considering there is no real increase in avg. life expectancy, infant mortality etc. , but I prefer a system that worries more about keeping me alive than getting their money first.

Do you really feel that this system is an efficient use of money? The savings rate of China is usually stated as somewhere between 30-50%. If they could use that money to as they saw fit this country could much more quickly become much less dependent on exports and real-estate thus becoming a much more stable economy.

Lastly out of all the really important documents I was given in China, only my insurance documents were not translated into English. Even when I asked for an English copy I was told there wasn’t one available and that I needn’t worry about it.

Health insurers around the world collectively hold $4.5 billion worth of tobacco industry stock. is Do you believe this is where your health insurance money should be?

I have invested in "Green Technology" in the past and all I did was lose money......I have invested in "alternative medicine and alternative energy"... all I did was lose money.

The big boys that can afford to lose/research/improve should be helping me/us out a lot more and quicker than they are....Only Govt.'s have the slightest chance of getting them do that....  good luck . Chinese government has the better/best chance of doing this..... they just do whatever they want..all power....USA govt. can't control NRA or Tobacco or drug companies or insurance outfits or Auto ...... Go China Go!!  blah blah blah... have another Beer.

10 000 Rmb to Dalian dentist last year for the new 'upper fixed denture'. My niece/dentist said 'it is beautifully done' ('you look like a movie star'...and so on...angel), and very cheap comparable to EU prices. Apparently, that's the price for 1 teeth in EU.

"upper fixed denture" is that the entire grill you had fitted there ?

7 pieces, 2 are mine (in between 7), so 9 altogether. Dentist offered me 5 different prices, and I picked 'middle one'. I'm 'in the known' about dentist's work, 'cause of my family. No complains on this one.

Scandinavian:

yup, that does sound cheap

Poland does have pretty decent prices http://www.whatclinic.com/dentists/poland/gdansk/fmex-dental-travel-treatment-in-gdansk-poland/dentures if in Europe, planeticket and hotel + treatment could still be less than in some countries. Plus you get to drink Slivovitz with the Poles.

Never been to Poland! Everything there goes by coal, so air must be blast. Home of the slivovitz is Serbia. I saw slivovitz bottles with pear in it. How? They stick bottles on the pear tree leaves in March/April, and they pick bottles of the tree in October, and pour spirit in it.

Otherwise, Serbs like to say: 'Speak Serbian, and whole World will understand you!' Cocky, I know, buTT…..in 1999, when NATO bombed Belgrade, Serbs shot down one or two F16 with Russian SAMs. Soldiers posed with wing of the stealth fighter and note in Serbian: 'We thought, it's invisible'. Cover of the Newsweek.
