Q: So what's the purpose of being so loud all the time?
How does it make conversations any easier? When I listen to people talking here I can hear everyone screaming their arguments or opinion at harmful decibel levels but no one listening to what others are saying, can't listen properly to what someone else is saying since everyone is shouting anyway.
Shouting is important because only their words are important. No one else is relevent.

Shouting is important so you can be heard over the other 1.4 billion Chinese! As we all know, most of China's problems are due to too many people!
The purpose is too get noticed, I observed conversations between my colleagues.
An example : A and B are talking about world peace (loudly of course)... suddenly C interrupts and wants to talk about benefits of WARM WATER (even louder)... completely irrelevant to world peace but still, everybody starts listening to C (without a cringe or getting offended), when he finishes he is abruptly stops talking, and we move back to world peace,.. It's all about being heard (the more louder you are more chances you will be heard, with a short attention span but you will be heard).
I don't know why it was loud to start with and screaming in the phone - don't get it!!

I am trying to learn Chinese, so I tend to pay attention to conversations happening around me (without staring). i figured, it may help in learning and I noticed this like 10K times... even though I come from society which is equally louder if not more... even there people would for sure get offended if interrupted, here It's amazing... people simply just turn to the one speaking louder then other's...

I don't think they can talk about world peace. Or anything else.
Because they want everyone around them to hear what they have to say because it's so damn important.
I think it's related to the idea of renhao: a place that feels happy and lively.
I thought it was because the chinese language is bad so everyone has to shout to be understood in different accents that might make the tones more difficult to understand.
WHAT DID YOU SAY I CAN'T HEAR YOU I'M ON MY CROP FIELD SHOUTING AT YOU FROM A DISTANCE WHILE I SPIT AND SHIT AND STARE AND POINT AT PASSERS BY AND SAY WHATEVER POPS INTO MY HEAD. IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE MY CROPS WILL STILL GROW. NOW WHERE'S THE SPEAKERPHONE BUTTON SO I CAN SHOUT TO MY GRANDSON THAT IT'S DINNERTIME!!1!
DOMINANCE! THE LOUDER I AM THE MORE RIGHTER I AM THAN YOU! I'M SO MUCH RIGHTER THAN YOU BECAUSE IM SO LOUD! YOUR VIEWPOINTS ARE MEANINGLESS NOW! 5000 YEARS OF CULTURE, BITCH!
A combination of the following reasons.
1. Demonstration of power ( i.e. their idea of power). Elbow your way through sound.
2. Lack of education. Ever noticed those who frequent libraries don't normally shout? They know what quietness means.
3. Mao had high regards for peasants who were his loyal supporters, and soldiers in his wars. CCP for decades glorified Mao in their propaganda. The zombies followed suit and behaved like peasants.
4. Animals aggressive behaviors. Most animals when fighting make loud noises to frighten their opponents. Mainlanders, the majority of, are boiling with inner turmoil.
5. Habits. Ever walked into a crowded mainland china restaurant? Escalation thing, one start to yell, another yell louder to be heard, soon the next table yell louder, until the whole restaurant has the noise decibel of a disco. They still don't know how loud they are and will continue to yell louder at that point.
6. Sick society. Ever been in a mental asylum?
I wish my students would be loud when they are trying to speal English in class. It is one of the few times that they are quiet.
There is no purpose. Ignorant peasants behaving like ignorant peasants.
someone should make a youtube video! sweetest, cutest little old lady (65ish) in my apartment complex,,, she comes up to me outside and u should just hear her! I'd say it is between 2 - 3 times louder than a normal voice. trippy!
