Q: Social security refund?

So I was told by a few people that when expats leave for good, they can get a refund of their social security payments...

If someone can confirm this, can you provide the Chinese reference and what paper work we need?

I can tell you, you have to go to the Chinese embassy in Hong Kong or the closest one near you and withdraw it there.

Hey I'm wondering what paperwork I will need to take care of this.  Have you done it personally?  Are you an HK resident?

I am an american and I've worked legally in china for three years and I'm leaving soon.  I would like to withdraw this money when I go home but my employer seems clueless.

Can you provide more insight?  nallanos@live.com

That's supposed to be the case. Don't know anyone who has tried it yet.

Have you tried searching for the answer? Loads of articles out there but can't remember reading any that told you how to do it. Not paying it myself yet so didn't read too deeply into the subject.

Hopefully someone on here might now or if you find out please let us all know.

I heard that tale as well. I am sure a paid 10-20k RMB in taxes/social security and other "benefits" over my time here. I wouldn't know how to get it back but I am betting it would be so complicated that nobody will ever receive it.

Government just wanted to ream us cause they know we make decent money. I got out of that racket. Why on EARTH should we EVER pay taxes to a government that doesn't even allow us to become a citizen?

Just ridiculous... grow up China and wear some big boy pants!

Hotwater:

OP is referring to Social Security, not taxes. We all pay taxes here if working legally. Not all cities have enforced the 2011 social security rules on foreigners.

It's possible. A colleague of mine did it in Wuxi. He out a form in, waited a week or two and then went and picked up the money in cash.

ill contact him and ask what was required.
