not everybody gets to enjoy the fantastic thing of bringing up a child. some are physically incapable.... from those I would expect extreme assistance in raising those that are not so lucky.

Many people on this forum have first families they neglected, I suspect. Me for one. Wont make that mistake again.

? What was the offending post? Should you really be apologizing or or should people grow thicker skin?

It was about how people that didn't breed weren't worthwhile individuals. In my opinion breeding is the cause of most if not all of the world's problems.

Yeah, that point he made was nonsense, but what's to get offended about? I don't have kids, I never will have kids. I didn't go and have a cry after reading it. I thought this idiot's got it all wrong, we're approaching 8b. But to be offended by it?
Shining_brow:
I suspect it's more from those who can't have kids that took offense. For those people, it can be a VERY sore point...
Those of us who don't have nor want kids, we're not likely to be overly offended (boo hoo type), but instead just to rip him apart on it...
What kind of world do we live in where we just can't agree to disagree, argue over ideas in a rational manner.
BHGAL I could attack your points on multiple levels but to get offended by it? Seriously? We need to learn to toughen the fuck up. This is why countries like Russia can bully Europe and America our culture has become the embodiment of weakness. In America when kids play sports all of them get a trophy for fear of offending the losers. That's not life. In WW2 we never heard of PTSD. Do Russian troops get PTSD? I worked with guys who were in Korea why weren't they fucked up? We need to seriously look at these questions because the answer simply is we're spoiled little wimps.

It's the culture of taking offence. Very little offends me. I like to think that I'm reasonably tolerant of others. Living in China has certainly knocked any edges off that were possibly there in the first place. My strategy is to take offence at anyone who takes offence in the first place. Your being offended deeply offends me, please stop.

You really should go back and look at some of your posts...
Russia bullied Europe?? How? When?
PTSD is really a vastly different kettle of fish. Firstly, it affects everyone differently. The hardest nut will crack easily, while the softest shell can handle it... it all depends on how one perceives their place in the world, and the meaning of human life. Did soldiers have PTSD after returning from WWII? Yes - some did! I think the biggest problem in relation to that was how it was handled. In WWII, everyone in Europe had some sort of shock & trauma.. so everyone was in it together, and everyone got some form of 'therapy' just being in that group, In Korea and Vietnam, it was vastly different... troops were expected to return home and just get back to normal with everyone else around them. So, the S&S were more prevalent., as the differences were more obvious.
To those who value human life in general, taking someone's life should have a profound affect on them. Even if you can justify it somehow. Those who place value of life on one's actions will have an easier time in dealing with such things.
As for the general idea of hardening up... too much emphasis is placed on satisfying the ego, and not on developing strength and integrity. The latter means acknowledging failures - but perceiving them differently and learning from them. So, I agree with you... instead of "Waaa.. I lost mummy", "Oh, no you didn't... here, have a lollypop", it should be "Yes, so... what do you learn from that?"

Recent rise in PTSD is due in part to this recent rise of the victimization culture. Everyone's a victim. We rush to coddle someone when they've been painted as the victim. So in a world where parents are neglectful of their children these children grow up to be love/ attention starved adults so when we see through the media all the avenues available to the weeping victim the weak minded can't resist. Example, a few weeks ago a Starbucks customer received their cup and noticed that it was inscribed to 'Diabetes here I come" did he get angry and tell the baristas 'fuck you' did he just deal with and leave it alone? He wrote a note weeping about his 2 sisters who suffered from diabetes, triggering an outpouring of grief for this poor victim. Maybe this guy ordered 5 spoons of sugar in his coffee, maybe he was eating 3 cakes. Eitherway he chose to make himself into the victim.
This victim culture has and continues to produce weak minded individuals. People who can't deal with difficult situations. During world war 2 people were expected to just get over it and go on with your life. These days we tell people you must feel bad and have a cry.
A gang banger kills people but he is made out to be the victim because he grew up in a tough neighborhood. BS

Care to turn this into a separate thread that more people might like to join? And, perhaps back up your assertions with data?
truth is, wait for it, the real truth is ..... I could not give a flying fiddler's f**k about pretty much anything, but me and my family.
I like the sports analogy thing... a winner #1 and a loser, is just a loser. Survival of the Fittest is very real in nature.
as in anything, many levels and incredible # of variables.
is there a YANGIST party, that I could join? OH wait, even if there was, they are probably all wrong.
Shining_brow:
You know - that attitude actually epitomises the very problems of the world that people bitch about.
It's also incredibly short-sighted... So, you care about you and your family... which members of it? Just you, your parents, wife, and kids? Or any others? Your friends? Your kids' friends? Your kids' kids? Your grandkid's spouses? Their family's? Your great-grandkids? etc etc??
Englteachted:
Survival of the fittest when it comes to humans is dead. Because people who do not work and can not afford kids have the government to rely on. Kids who screw up in school get passed along anyway. Governments fix laws to slant the playing field for businesses
BHGAL:
my family right now consist of me and my wife and step daughter. my son(s)are on their own, my brothers, sisters, aunts; uncles, cousins, parents etc.etc are all on their own.
payday today.... who should I send money to?
