Q: The sounds of China compared to home

The sounds of China are different to foreign sounds.

Lying in bed with the window open just as the sun is rising.

I can hear the trains in the distance blowing their horns in the shunting yard on the other side of the city. The next sound is the wisk of the straw broom and the scrape of a metal shovel  on the cement road as the street cleaner starts his or her day.

Gradually the noise increases with the roller doors of the shops opening getting ready to receive customers into the restaurants that dot the street. Then the Taxi horns  start trying to get thier first bite of income for the day.The sound of the walking tractors off to market and the tricycles that sound like a flock of lawnmowers come and go.
The tofu guy calling out and the clagging of the scrap collectors bell bring in a new day.
Not forgetting the numerous amount of explosives used to open shops and weddings . (Yeah yeah you invented Gun powder )

This continues into the night till about 10pm as people go home the noise slowly subsidies till the last drunk throws up on the street and the last roller door closes.

Then the cycle starts all over again .

Sounds of home.

The odd semi trailer barreling down the hwy and the engine brake signels he is slowing down for the narrow bridge.

430am and the traffic on our suburban street increases with the wanker up the road with the Harley Davidson roars off to work. And drowns out the sounds of the kookaburra and magpies.

The kids head to school at about 830am talking about what computer game is best.

The buses pick up more people and take them on their way.

As night arrives it slowly quiets down and is almost tranquil at around 8pm unless its football season then the drunks role out and fight in the street then the police sirens start followed by the ambulance.

This goes on till 230am..

Fuck im glad im in China

Back home it's birds and the odd car. That's it. I live in the countryside in the UK.

oh, and the workers here when they bring stuff up the stairs sing out "aiahhu, aiahhu"

it is likely a local dialect, but one can know when some work is occurring by their 'singing'

my guess is that this might be sung a little different in each place, cool stuff Smile

6.40am...I can hear a few birds tweeting outside...then upstairs the gentle knocking of blunt cleaver on wood starts...I'd love to know what they're preparing at this early hour that needs them to hack away at something?

back home i live in the 'burbs', so it is birds, the occasional city fox (fighting either local cats or other foxes) in summer and an increasing number of cars leaving from 7.30 onwards.

But still quiet, even though it is not far off a main route into the city.

i would be living a couple of Kms from the sea, so there would be flocks sea-birds if the tide is in.

This is one of the things that I hate about where I am here... and China in general! Morning... ayis and cleaners screaming their tits off in high-pitched squeels to the person only 2 meters away.... or on a mobile phone. The garbage truck that has to keep hitting the fkn horn for 10 mins to get some twat to move his/her car to get to the rubbish (possibly, only to finally give up on the horn, and find a way around... not sure, never found out!) And, unfortunately, I live about 100m from a kindergarten, so there's all that noise and screaming of kids (and their grandparents) ... and the 'music' to go with it (sounds like a punk song, oddly enough!) Back home... let's see, last place I lived was about 200m from the beach. Granted, on a minor major road, but the sounds of cars were nothing to the noise of here! Cos, you know, a car is fairly quiet, unless the tosser uses the horn.

Before that, again, the noisiest I was used to was the garbo collectors. But, birds and geckos were common sounds.

@Blondie ...i guess we can shut the noise out here as the windows are double glassed due to the cold climate. 0c last night 10c in the daytime. My house back home is only single brick and board the apartment here is all concrete so believe it or not its actually quieter here.also there are no unicornstards burning rubber in China in V8's

When I was a kid it was countryside South Texas,,, no sound,,, lol,,, anyone rember when the world could be like that?  haha,,,  well,,, to be fair would hear birds sometimes,,,

maybe,,, just maybe the occasional car,,, the road to our property also went to other properties in the area,,, and wound up at a small country road to get to town... so, yeah,,, the occasional car,,, maybe,,, lol

and actually a railway maybe 5 miles away,,, and could hear freight train sound it's horn once in a blue moon.

Shining_brow:

Wow! Even when I was in a 'quiet' place like you described back home, there'd still be the morning and afternoon screeching of 1000 cockatoos/galahs/rosellas in the tree outside... which, TBH, is still a pretty awesome thing! :p (only lasts about 20-30 mins)

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
