Q: South African looking for china working opportunities?

I am planning to apply to study MBBS in China, so my wife (24 years old) and I will have to relocate to China for 6 years. I would love some guidance/advice with regards to what my wife's different working options in China will be (she has a Masters degree in Architecture with one year relevant working experience)? English teaching: will she get work in China with TEFL 140 and no English teaching experience? I there Architecture jobs for foreigners in China? Any advice in selecting a Medical University in China is welcome too (taking in consideration quality of MBBS course, quality of life in the specific area of China/my wife will have to be able to support us financially and work opportunities for my wife.

I know this is a mouth full, but any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards LL

Technically you need 2 years teaching experience to work, but the system is so corrupt that she might be able to get work if she's caucasian.

If you're concerned about the quality of the course, my suggestion is..... take a cpurse outside of China.

(I'm probably being a dick. BCD and drinking don't make for a pleasant Spider. Try WWW.CUCAS.EDU.CN
. I think that's the site. its a database of all of the major universities in China, with costs and admission requirements. also it enables you to apply pretty easy. I uded it to apply to several universities when I was picking a chinese language program)

Okay,  "corrupt system" meaning an illegal job, or that they might approve her visa even though she technically require the 2 years teaching experience?

Both? Either one? Really, it depends on what city it is, and how well established the company is. It's possible to do, I'm sure there are plenty of people here who can attest (sp?) to that. Good luck!

A: No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa
A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
