Since I couldn't find a suggestion link, I decided to put it here. But, like Jepordy, let me phrase it in the form of a question.
Does anyone else have suggestions on how to improve this site?
Here are a few of my own:
- The search should include questions, answers & comments. Or at least, have an advanced search option that allows this.
- Browser based spell checking in the "answer box". Comments allow it, but not the box where you have to input your answers. And it makes terrible non-spellers like me look bad. :(
- Revamp the message system. When someone replies to an email they sent you, it is hard to find.
- Someplace it should show you where you got your points, instead of just how. I.E. If someone gives me a thumbs up (or down) I would like to see which post it was done on.
- Beer. Free beer always makes things better.
Anyone else?

We have a few changes that will likely be implemented some time next week.
Additionally, we will also set up a suggestion box somewhere on the right hand column for you guys to drop by and post/read other people's suggestions.
In the meantime, here are three of mine:
- If a question gets a total of -10 votes, it gets automatically locked.
- Question of the week: most voted up question of the week gets 20/30/50/infinity points
- 2000 points can be redeemed for a case of our very own brand of Enirutac beers (Mr. Tibbles gets 500 point discount for suggesting it)
Xpat.John:
Enirutac = Cat Urine :) Very popular in Aussie Wine, I am told.
Hulk:
I downvoted you because this was posted a year ago, and still hasn't been implemented.
When listing questions with number of answers also include number of comments.
Also, update to the top of the list questions with the latest answers OR comments, as I think both are relevent.
And I concur with the free beer...makes writing soooo much easier sometimes.
I also agree with the thumbs up (or down) link to see the post it came from.
Thanks Xpat.John,
I was actually thinking of bumping the last one.
In response to your comments:
- email system: yup, that's a problem we're working on atm. Should be fixed in a matter of days
- tracing points: also in the works, though technically a little more complex, so will take a bit more time.
We are also planning for a single forum, accessible through the Q&A homepage, and in the longer term we will have a major design upgrade.
Until then, however, keep these smaller suggestions coming, and we'll do our best to implement them asap.
B.C.
Xpat.John:
Tracking the comments shouldn't be too difficult depending on how your database is setup. If the vote is stored with the answer ID, then it should be simple to create a link to the exact answer the thumbs up or thumbs down is made on. :) (I am in the process of creating a complex Drupal site right now and I understand what it is like to be buried with database architecture.) But all in all, this is a fine site you have here. The first round of beers is on me should we ever be in the same neighborhood.
Perma-Ban Localla. This forum was actually starting to be pretty good before myfather/localla came on. Not a whole lot of trash talk. He's been back for a few days and it's turning into a cess pit again.
thedude:
No, just a snotty local empress. Could be any age as most women here are quite immature.
nevermind:
Localla is sthe same twerp on the Beijinger forum. It's a guy, a pathetic one at that. Same posting style as myfather. Pretty sad.
I don't like the collapsed comments or posts, too easy to miss them.
And I think some people, but not me should be banned. I'm here for comic relief.
Ammia:
That's kinda the point, though, isn't it? For collapsed answers to be as invisible as possible
I think points should be able to be exchanged for beer. 2000 points for a case of something sounds pretty good. I'll bet there will be a lot more activity on the site.
Shining_brow:
Depends on the beer..... there's some I wouldn't exchange 1 point for :(

Quit scrubbing my humour, I write mostly like I talk, to be funny. If I get a laugh, I figure thats helpful. I don't write venom like some people.
adminanswer:
Combine humor with informative relevance and thy would be a God, TedDBayer.
TedDBayer:
OK I'll try, but not the image I want. God? Still gimme a break, I don't hate.
Can there be a way to report comments, and not just answers? Some people can be really rude, but I don't want to report my own answer.
bennyfulltrack:
Why wouldn't you like to report your own answer? This sounds fishy to me!
Besides that. All those reportings and thumbs up and down are childish.
Dude
You have been here long enough to know that He who post to much would be all over that like old Chinese ladies to a free breakfast bar.
and if his twin got wind of it
well you know what banter we will be subjected to then
and the worst part is we can't collapse a comment without taking out the Question
tmestep8:
haha, yet your reply to my comment was a new answer. You say it's a bad idea, but your response shows and uses the loophole.
What about a group of 5-6 of the long term regulars that can "hide" stupid questions or comments until Admin can decide whether to delete them or not?
Also, given that it is obvious that multiple accounts are created with the intention of downvoting, what about limiting voting to those with 200 or 500 points?
We should be able to get points for writing on the echina forum....
Maybe the color of the title's such as governor purple, shifu orange can have some type of animation underneath.....
I use another site that is related to mixed martial arts and they put colored belts underneath the users. I like the whole title thing but would like to see something underneath each of the users.....
xinyuren:
This would not be appropriate for western expats. Accept on kiddie websites (or for girls), we don't go for all that cutesy stuff like you do in China.
The most annoying thing I see is posters that answer every question in an effort to get points, (maybe??) IT shall be nameless here. I'd like to see thumbs down actually count as negative points. I don't care about points. There is at least one poster that blankets negatives and yet gets thumbs up. This is obviously from a multi-ID user as no one would give this poster a thumbs up.
Is there a way for ADM to see who gives blanket thumbs own?
Care to take a vote and see who or WHAT we'd like to see banned?
You can argue censorship and freedom of speech, but you all know I'm talking about the villag idiot.
get rid of all multpal accounts and take of points for down votes = bye bye trolls. and better questions /answers
TedDBayer:
thats what I said, MAKE THUMBS DOWN counts as negative points
Traveler:
But inversely, she down votes every question and answer, so everyone would be penalised one point every time they posted. More if she uses multiple accounts to give multiple down votes.
philbravery:
if everybody hits the abuse button as soon as it posts out of the guidelines it can not play the crazy gang game as well
make downvotes count against points, restrict users with zero (or less points) from posting answers
automatically delete old questions in they have been in the "Need Answers" section for longer than, say a month
specifically delete the "Scam education group (Bel education group)" question fron the Need Answers section, as it is locked anyway, so not much chance it will ever go anywhere.

Scandinavian:
maybe there should be a downvote/upvote ratio, to keep a balance, so to be able to give a downvote you need to give an upvote. obviously that can be misused too, but it does make it more labor intensive to balance several accounts
